The Pete was just a toy. Due to California emissions it can't be used for work. I put historic plates on it and took it to car shows.
I had to replace all the wheel bearing grease seals. The transmissions just got a top off. As did the rear end. I did have to steam out the fuel tanks then pull...
I drove my Pete home on 20 yr old fuel then I ran that fuel out before refilling the tanks.
I don't recommend changing the fluids before you start it. Leave the oil and filter on. Old oil is better than waiting on a dry engine to fill a filter.
My peterbilt sat 20 years without running. Put batteries in it and pumped up the tires and drove it home. Just start the thing. Don't add any combustible oils to the cylinders as you don't want it to run away (Over rev)immediately after starting it.
Napa used to have very good parts. That's no longer the case. Their water pumps are the same junk any other parts house carries. Same casting numbers on the body, same gaskets in a zibloc bag taped to the lid etc. Their rebuilt starters and alternators are so bad now no shops will use them...
pure dexcool/dexclone 50/50 with water will destroy a copper radiator real fast. A few months! Yours being so dirty may be insulating the solder from the bad stuff.
We will not warranty a recore or repair if the wrong coolant is used. We simply can't fix the damage it does.
Those coolants are Dexclones. They attack rubber and plastic parts and become goo when subjected to air. They will also eat the solder out of the radiator. You want old school silicated green antifreeze, not a long life antifreeze like the 2 you mentioned. You can add the sca's to the silicated...
I'm not sold on long life coolants in older stuff. Both the elc and Prestone are based on GM's dexcrap and are very hard on plastic and rubber components like the orings in your oil cooler.
When I was 16 I wrecked my 78 Toyota pickup. Hit head on by a drunk driver. My front end, frame and cab were destroyed.
I got another cab and a frame from a junkyard and built my truck in my gravel yard. It was not real hard. Took me 3 days straight with only hand tools. I got help lifting the...
Many years ago I mounted a water trap fuel filter on my truck. It's mounted to the fan shroud. Wix #33123 is the filter number.
I would like to move it to a more accessible place under the hood but I dont see a place with enough room for it. It needs to be mounted with the drain down.
Ideas? Pics?
There are a couple of rebuilders on this site. They have good reputations. But since they know these pumps better than anyone else their pumps are much better than what others do. Not saying that all pump rebuilders are bad but your guaranteed to get a good one from them.
The bottles " should" be clean. But stuff happens. Most common is plastic pieces left over from the molding process. Anything poured into an engine will be filtered by the oil filter. Pouring it into the fuel filter by way of the clean oil hole bypasses any filtering.
There isn't anything wrong with the 70a charging system unless your using lots of power for a winch, lights etc. The problem is getting parts that stay working. That can also be an issue with the 3g alternator.
Plus with the v belt setup if you smoked a belt you have others to run the water pump...
Is the body of the regulator grounded? I ran an extra ground to mine. If that's OK unplug the regulator. If it stops charging get another one. If its still charging with it unplugged you have an electrical problem.
