Solid truck. Value to a buyer is very location dependent. The true value is the time spent with your grandfather.
Where's your fuel filter? I think there's a reason international ran hard lines after the filter. There's no chance of a fuel line shedding material into the IP.
Sounds like your rear tank is out of fuel.
I suspect that you have a bad fuel pump or maybe a big air leak on the supply side of the fuel pump. Hard to imagine any significant amount of air on a running truck if the fuel pump is working and getting a supply of fuel. Are you sure you weren't...
@riphip thanks for the list. I was wondering what size to use for water pump to alternator. It seems to me that if the diesel pulse is an issue with the belts that moving the belt off the crank may give it a little more life.
@PROFG point of data. My batteries from intl dealer are 5 1/2 years old. They're getting tired. I pulled the labels off them and although they're "maint free" they have individual caps.
The passenger battery's water level in each cell was around 1/2” - 1" lower than the drivers side battery...
My vote is oil pressure, water temp and pyrometer.
I'd think a pyro should come before a voltmeter. Dead batteries are inconvenient. Melted pistons are expensive. Stick a voltmeter where it can be glanced at occasionally.
That's not good. Buggered Fuel filter? Do you have the factory hardline from the fuel filter housing to the nose of the injection pump? Only place I would think you could get rubber in there is if that's been replaced with a rubber line.
Probably going to need @Thewespaul 's address
@Thewespaul Thank you for that.
Since Selahdoor is a pretty low key guy I hope he doesn't mind me piggy backing on his thread. Is the lock ring just a punch and a hammer to remove? Lefty loosey? It looks like I can fish the front sending unit out without dropping the tank.
Keep something like a phone book handy and remove the air cleaner and stud when you first start it after putting the cover back on the IP. If it runs away, cover the intake manifold with the phone book.
This is a 6.9 housing. It takes a 7/8 x 14 thread filter. The filter is rated at 8 micron and not expensive.
There is no water separator on it. That is mounted separately by the brake booster. You can see it is also missing the vacuum switch and the heater wire that are on the 7.3 housings.
Errr. Or you could drive properly . If I need throttle and gas at the same time, heel and toe while breaking the rear end loose coming into the corner.
Seriously. That's's a good tip to get to where you need to be to fix your truck.
