    Low mpg IDI

You're at 12.4 mpg in American gallons. Quigley is a 4x4 conversion right? My 4x4 without overdrive truck with the same rear axle gets 10-11 mpg, 22/100km Does your exhaust put out black smoke when you press the pedal? That would indicate too much fuel. Did the mechanic pop test the...

    Valve cover gasket brand recommendation

Does it matter? I went with off the shelf rubber felpro. Cleaned the surfaces well and put good rtv on the engine side. There's not much oil up there. CDR mostly keeps the crankcase at negative pressure. I guess that most were like mine. Leaked enough to ruin the heater hose every few years...

No Power to Fuel Cutoff Solenoid

I looked again. If your fusible link is dead, you won't have glow plugs, cold advance or high idle. If the feed is bad, the fuel heater also will not have power. If it's only the shutoff, it is the wire feeding it. That's how I'd look at it assuming your gen is the same as there earlier.

No Power to Fuel Cutoff Solenoid

This is the generation before yours. I see a feed from the ignition switch to the fuel heater and the shutoff. That goes to two fusible links. Might help. Might not. If you're going to run a toggle, make sure you run it from a keyed power source.

    DB2 Tuning Guide

Wes, Thank you for this excellent, easy to understand post. I had something odd happen. I pulled out the minmaxx rod because it felt a little "chunky" turning it. Turns out a few of the aluminum threads were stripped. I cleaned those off, played with it until I felt it slide back into the...

7.3 IDIT are suppose to leak

That sucks. I'd pull one from a spare pump. I know that doesn't help you which sucks more. There is no seal in there. It is a steel to steel compression fit. If a guy had the fitting removed and an old line, he could lap the fitting with some clover compound. No way I would try that on the...

7.3 IDIT are suppose to leak

You can use a regular open end wrench if it works better. Those steel nuts aren't going to strip at anything less than angry gorilla torque. I believe Wes was talking about using a line wrench on the low pressure lines that go from the filter housing to the pump nose cone and from the pump...

7.3 IDIT are suppose to leak

There is a special wrench for those lines. They likely came in dealer master tool sets for the shop. You could try eBay or go new for $150 or so. Search OTC 7460 injector line tool. You can tighten all of them easily with the pump off the engine .... With a combination of crows foot and a...

    Coolant on intake manifold

Interesting. My 6.9 has oval holes. If I ever pull the heads, I will see about making them more roundy for pipe plugs. Replacement wasn't too bad. Of course the weather had to nudge back up to 100. I got it all torqued to 28 ft lbs and let it sit for the night. I'll torque to 35 and start...

    Valley Pan on The Cheap

You should probably start a new thread instead of dragging up a six year old one. Every auto parts store shows them as an intake manifold gasket. If you want to go internet, rock Auto and even Amazon have them.

    Coolant on intake manifold

I think I found the answer. Rough holes without plugs. Note to self. Put pipe plugs in there if I ever pull the heads. https://www.oilburners.net/threads/valley-pan-install.71996/

    Coolant on intake manifold

Sounds like fun! Do you know if there is a cup plug in that hole that should also be replaced or is it just the valley pan sealing it off?

    Coolant on intake manifold

@Thewespaul thank you for the reply. I dig deeper and here's what I've got The controller is on the driver's side. My leak is at the rear glow plug on the passenger side. The leak is directly behind (towards the center of the truck) the glow plug. It's leaking between the head and the intake...

    Coolant on intake manifold

Went out yesterday and noticed a small puddle under the passenger side of the engine. I drove the truck and this morning, I noticed a much larger puddle. I was short on time and only took a quick glance. I noticed coolant still dripping around the starter and I noticed coolant puddled on top...

    Fan clutch upgrade...

Really interesting thread. Thanks for putting it together. Have you looked at a shotgun choke? A cross slot cut into each end of the bushing and a couple of easily ground tools would make it easy to remove from either part.

Why did my 7.3 not like ether today.

I'd crack the injectors lines loose at the injectors and crank it instead using ether on a hot engine. It'll fire on a few cylinders and as they start leaking fuel, you can tighten them.
