Yeah it was. Ben welded it for me since I don't have a tig, but even he burned through once. I had talked to mel about a longer one, but he didn't realize it was too short. I think he is going to work on that for future kits. It seems when Hypermax made the drain and feed for him that they...
I also was able to finish fitting everything with the turbo thanks to a friend who tigged up my oil drain tube to make it 1.25in longer.Next step is to hopefully get her setting in her new home. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly from here on out!
Well since getting back from the rally I now have some new found ambition. It was great seeing everyone's projects and just made me want to finish mine up more. My big project for the day was finishing up what was left of the fuel system. I had already made a bracket and mounted the fuel pump...
@TWeatherford the DT360 truck at the rally was Jared. His name here on the board is @subway. It's a long story how he got that name, haha! Sorry we missed you since we were there in the beginning of the week. Hopefully next year you can join us for a few more days, I know for me it's always a blast!
Well Chris, Miranda, Ben and I made it home a couple hours ago. Now the fun of unpacking and cleaning everything up, haha! Thanks again to Heath and Missy for putting the rally on this year! I'm pretty sure I can speak for all of us and say we had a blast and wish we could have stayed longer...
Sounds like the tech was being extra picky on a bunch of stuff. Then again maybe where you are at inspections are much more strict. Funny thing is I thought PA was bad, lol! Keep up the good work though! I'm excited to see it if you decide to still go to the rally.
I don't know how yours is, but my 86 has a flat on the shaft for the steering wheel. I don't know if all of them had that or not though. Not trying to burst your bubble, but you may end up changing it at the shaft end.
One other question, do you have a "real" oil pressure gauge in the truck? I remember Corey telling me goose had an issue with valves hitting the pistons and it ended up being a stuck oil pressure regulator causing too high of oil pressure which caused the lifters to "pump up" the whole way.
Technically the shims won't affect lift because we have hydraulic lifters. At least not unless there was so much shim in there that the lifters would have no preload in which case it would have had a lifter tick since the first start. The idea with a hydraulic lifter is that the oil takes up the...
I liked them na. I felt like it pulled all the way to the governor vs before it felt like it would nose over on the top end. I dynoed it at a rally once and did 135hp with a stock injection pump that I never turned up any. Just a stock reman pump.
So I'm installing a 38 gallon tank in my truck too, but I have a question. Where did you lengthen the pick-up tube? The instructions tell you to do it just inside the tank, but on a diesel it looks like you could just add the tube to the end of the pickup tube itself?
I hope it's not that. First thing I would do is disconnect each of them and check them all with a test light. If you used motorcraft plugs I kinda doubt one actually broke off, but I suppose it's possible.
You may want to double check that all your glow plugs are good now that you have the timing right. I set a truck to 11 degrees once and it ate the glow plugs in a pretty short amount of time. Btw I didn't want to set it at 11 degrees and I warned him that I thought it might eat the glow plugs...
Dad and I found them on ebay. They were like 20 or 30 bucks I believe. I think we just typed in turbo coolant fittings. The GT3788R uses an M18-1.50 thread. They have a half inch hose fitting on the other end. I just thought these would be cleaner than the barb fittings.
Well today my coolant banjo fittings for the turbo came and created a new issue. I had clocked the center of the turbo so that the front water port was higher than the rear one thinking with my banjo fittings that it would simplify things. The reality though was that the fittings had to be...
Well I made a little progress tonight. A friend of mine was able to weld up the bypass tube tonight for me. It might not seem like much, but it's forward progress and that's what really matters. I really hope she runs as good as she is starting to look, haha!
Well the ugly reality is beginning to set in that I most likely won't have my truck done for this years rally. The little things just keep eating up tons of time and the engine is still on the stand because of needing random fittings, hardware, wiring, ect. I'm still going to try to have it...
