I'm back in the IDI game!

He said he test fired it and let it run for a few minutes . He started it up again later in the day and let it run for another few minutes.

I'm back in the IDI game!

I got it on the stand this morning and took the pan off. I have never had a new engine , so I am hoping this grit is just from the initial breaking in ...? There is a ton of it.

I'm back in the IDI game!

I appreciate him trying to help , but ya it did make things a bit more challenging. Tomorrow I am going to try the jig route. I have some easy outs I can use if I can get a hole drilled in it. He said it was just about torqued then snapped. Worst case I guess I will have to pull the crank and...

I'm back in the IDI game!

So the machine shop called the other day. One head is cracked , probably on that melted down cylinder. We will see when I go pick them up. But , I did pick up a replacement engine the other day . The guy I bought it from rebuilt it for a project , then changed direction with the project. One...

    Aftermarket air intake

https://www.oilburners.net/threads/has-anyone-tried-this-intake-hat.81141/ This hat, inline filter, and the Hypermax cowl intake would be my choice.

You are right, it most definitely melted. But there was some piston material stuck to the head. I didn't try to remove it so I don't know how bad it is stuck to it. I was in a hurry to get them to the machine shop. This truck has 87k miles on it. I did do a compression test prior to pulling it...

I'm back in the IDI game!

I agree, must be related. I don't see any size stamps on the pistons so I'm assuming they are standard bore , though I also don't see STD on them. The bore is pretty scored up on that cylinder. I don't think the oil cooler leaked. I'm wondering if some of the piston smacked and cracked the...

I'm back in the IDI game!

I thought that at first but it did the same thing to a non-rusty side too :dunno . I will be replacing the pushrods and lifters , but hoping to salvage the rockers.

I definitely would not recommend soaking your pushrods in vinegar... lol.

I'm back in the IDI game!

Yep , the rocker side of the pushrod is coated in copper right? Anything on the shaft? I have heard that about pennies but never tried it. I don't think vinegar eats copper..(?) . But it definitely looks like it ate something off the shaft. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

I've been soaking a set of rockers and pushrods in vinegar for a few days.. Are the pushrods coated with something that the vinegar would remove? It looks like it did..

Blew a Banks Gen 1 turbo

A N/A engine normally vents the crank case pressure from the rear of the valley pan and in to the back of the intake. The CDR mounts to the back of the intake. Since the turbo kit uses that spot for turbo oil drain they just move the pressure source to the oil fill cover and reroute it. It is...

Blew a Banks Gen 1 turbo

No. The side with the mounting tabs ( flat side ) goes to the intake.

Blew a Banks Gen 1 turbo

His setup is connected correctly.. The crank case pressure comes out of the Banks adapter , goes to the cdr which regulates the pressure, then gets recycled in to the intake. There is nothing wrong with how he has it setup.

Blew a Banks Gen 1 turbo

His setup looks fine to me. Banks adapter -> CDR -> intake which is correct. He didn't trap any crank case pressure.

Not good lol. Super thick, definitely a lot of coolant in it. I didn't notice any metal though.

I'm back in the IDI game!

Possibly! But I'm hoping to get a pair. I did end up doing a compression test lol. I think it was #6 with low compression (250 or so ) and the others were 450+. I am really hoping you are right and the bottom end looks much better! I don't have a way to blast them.. Would a soak in vinegar do...

I'm back in the IDI game!

It is definitely worse than I was expecting. Funny thing is when I unlocked the engine it fired right up and sounded good! At this point I'm not sure what route to take with it. I need someone to sell me some lift brackets so I can get this thing pulled and torn down. If anyone has a good engine...
