I finally have an engine! I sold it to a local guy about a year ago. He stored it as a spare. I had a turbo kit he wanted so he traded me the engine back for it! Funny how things turn out. I don't know his name on here but thanks again Derek!
Ya , unfortunately not even the bearings are new. It's pretty disappointing . So at this point it is pretty clear that there is nothing "rebuilt" or "new" about this engine , aside from some gaskets and paint.:wtf:
I truly appreciate all of the offers to help. It really means a lot! I will get it sorted out and back on the road one way or another , but thank you all so much!
I pulled a main cap today to check out the bearings...
I am trying to be polite and not drop names but he is definitely more than welcome to share his side of the story if he wants to. I have screen shots and records of literally everything. I also have cameras at my house and one of them has been aimed at this engine the entire time it has been...
Wow.. I really appreciate that guys! It truly means a lot! I think that I will be able to get this engine fixed with the money he is refunding me. If not , everything will work out how it is suppose to , even if that means it taking more time. But I do truly appreciate the offer!
I really appreciate that Russ :Thumbs Up! I'm going to drop the heads off today to be checked out. If they are good and I have enough good parts to assemble a decent engine I might take you up on that :D! I'm going to send him a message and see if he's willing to work with me on it first though.
Ya , I usually don't trust anyone. Unfortunately I was desperate for an engine and took the bait. He is a member on here and I'm sure he's following this thread.
At this point I would be surprised if it even has new bearings / rings. We will find out soon , and I will be pulling the cooler apart to see if it has new o-rings as well.
Well , I finally got some work done on this engine now that the smoke has cleared up a bit. Unfortunately I have nothing but bad news. It is clear now that I got screwed on this engine. Nothing was torqued , the "new" pistons are clearly used , the "new" head bolts are clearly used. He didn't...
Ya , I'm not sure what I'm going to do at this point. I am low on funds and extremely behind on getting this truck finished. So if I can get these issues resolved without tearing in to it , the bearings end up looking good , and it sounds good when I test fire it I will probably just toss it in...
Ya , I'm pretty frustrated. I'm going to try to get it extracted without pulling the intake / head. If it won't come out I guess I get to tear it down and go through it...
This engine deal is really starting to irritate me. When I got home from picking it up I saw this intake bolt was missing. I figured he forgot to install it.. Nope , it's broken off in the head. It's my fault for not catching this stuff before hand , but man , this thing was suppose to be bolt...
Wow , really? I always thought diesel wrecked bearings.. I have a ton of diesel , I'll give it a shot! To fill it up passed the pan I'll have to seal the pan. But I'll just use a cork gasket. It should seal it good enough.
I just talked to him again. He said he pulled the pan for the first cut , but the engine was right beside the bench , upside down. He checked fitment, and cut more off the pan. But the second time he left it on. So that makes sense. It definitely looks like metal / cut off disk material. It...
Oh I am definitely having that I'm f'ed feeling. The main reason I bought it and didn't rebuild mine is because I don't have a clean shop to assemble a bottom end in. I live in the mountains with a long dirt driveway that dusts everything out. So it's looking like I have to disassemble it and...
Definitely not rust. It's metal shavings / grit. He cut the bottom of the pan off to clearance it for his project , and never finished it. I'm thinking he must have cut the pan with it on the engine.
