    Double cardan delete?

You guys got me to thinking: What's different between 93 F250 and 2000 F250? Why the double cardan joint. So, after grabbing an angle/level app on my phone, I measured that on my 93, the front axle is angled up at 6 degrees, the driveshaft is at 6 degrees(so right in line with the front...

    Why so hot??

So, if you have the radiator cap off and it's idling, and you rev the motor, does the coolant level drop, then come back when you bring the RPMs back to idle? If so, you've got air in the system. Make sure that you've removed the darned check ball in the upper thermostat housing, and that the...

    Double cardan delete?

On my new 2000 F-250, looks like the double cardan joint is toast. Like melted metal "drips" have come out of the center section where the pivot and pin should be. So, assuming the pin side(which is a part of the driveshaft itself) is bad... what are my options? Looks like the 'right' thing is...

    Hard/no start when sitting/cold - 2000 F250 7.3

Finally found my allen wrenches... Not this(thank goodness!). It's a little more than an inch from the top when measured from the outside surface of the HPOP(shoved a screwdriver in there till the handle hit). I'm thinking you are right. One working GP, which is why it sounds like 1 cylinder is...

    Hard/no start when sitting/cold - 2000 F250 7.3

So... I, the IDI guy, finally bought a Powerstroke. This truck, a white 2000 F-250 4x4 CCSB 4R100 truck, marked as "crank no start" came up at auction. 226K Miles. It all looked intact, so I decided to take a chance on it. $1800 later(2K after taxes and fees), it was mine! Now... Get it home...

Change oil after 6 months despite low miles?

Yeah, these are *dirty* engines. If you add a tight bypass filter(like an amsoil setup or centrifuge), you can probably extend it... but I've seen too many engines with sludge/crud in them because (evidently) the oil didn't get changed enough. And I can definitely tell in a lifter tick if I...

Leaking rear tank at sending unit

I would look into brazing/soldering the line in place. Probably soldering it would be fine, because you won't have any high temps.

Change oil after 6 months despite low miles?

I personally think you are fine - I'd change it around 2500 though. So what if it's a few more months? I know people say that you have to change it every 6 months(or up to a year with synthetic), but I don't think the oil is going to experience *that* much degradation over time with no use. In...

    My arduino gauge project

I will say that with my dash and the 20x4 reflective LCD(with backlight), even down to freezing it was usable. Sure, you get some ghosting, but as long as your refresh rate is reasonably slow(every second or so), or the data doesn't change much very quickly, it's still readable.

    Injector blow by...

I've gotten a couple aftermarket(Dorman?) cables. First one in my '93 was stiff. A few months, maby a year later it just snapped on me driving home(Bailing twine rigged from the throttle lever, across the windshield wiper and in through the wind-wing works as a makeshift throttle). Put a new...

Also, to prevent the rest of us from having to look at HUGE TEXT, use Ctrl key and + on your keyboard to magnify your web browser. Also it's usually a menu item(View->Zoom on my Firefox install).

    Quick flywheel questions...

If you use a proper-sized impact, or a smaller impact and then torque, you'll be fine. If you use a big high-powered 1/2" impact(which have been getting a lot stronger in recent years), one which can easily snap off 1/2" bolts... yeah. Especially if you don't just go zip-clack-clack-done, but...

    ""Need advice desperately!!!""

Yeah, motorcraft all the way. As I acquire new JY motors and trucks, I keep finding Autolites. Sometimes swelled, almost always dead. The Beru design is just plain a higher quality plug(less moisture in the plug tip itself, so it doesn't swell when hot), and they can take a higher than rated...

    Tire choice help...

Is this a good scenario for Dyna Beads? I'm still on the fence as to whether they are a good idea or not, but they might work nicely for something like this which won't stay balanced.

    Tools and Spare Parts

For me, it depends on where I'm going. To work and home? I try to carry my main tool set(sockets, wrenches, pliers, multimeter etc) and my dewalt power tool set(impact wrench, driver, sawzall, batteries, cutoff grinder). I rarely use said tools for working on the truck away from home, but I...

Turn up your ip with an endoscope

I just pull the IP gear inspection cover on the front(two bolts) of the IP cover. This lets you see the 3 IP gear bolts and the dowel pin. Rotate the engine till the dowel pin is straight up(12 O clock) and the screw should be accessible through the hole in the side of the pump.

    Tire choice help...

While this probably isn't useful, the only new set of tires I've bought was a set of Michelin XPS Traction tires. I had found a used set that were over 20 years old(3-digit date code) and had zero sidewall cracking and were still pliable, and thought "Wow, I need to buy a new set of these"...

    Quick flywheel questions...

The only advice I have to give is to make sure to properly torque the flywheel bolts... Not have your assistant try to install them with the big impact(~300ft-lbs) vs the small driver(~30ft-lbs) and then torque them(They all broke clean off 200 miles later).

What to do with this truck?

Yes, they are off by a bit, same as a 6.9 is off compared to a 7.3 N.A. According to my engine builder, when I gave him a flex plate (that was evidently a 7.3T one) and he checked it on a 6.9 he was building, it was 186 grams off, "enough to give it a bit of a vibration". Physically, they will...

    Brake parts no-no's

Just want to point out that a flare tool is cheap($10 or so at Autozone?) and it took me under 5 minutes to put a new end on one brake line which had an odd-sized nut on it. (This was during my add-a-line-locker project. Also, I want to say that hydroboost is a completely different feeling from...

    Cheapish 8cyl p pump

So, close to N/A fueling on an IDI, and even closer to one tuned for zero smoke.... Go install a Hypermax smoke puff limiter. It'll totally change the off-idle characteristics of that truck - you limit the zero-boost fueling down to what the engine can actually use(so you don't overfuel and...

    My arduino gauge project

As someone who used a LM1815 - see here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1246137-complete-guide-accurate-custom-digital-tach.html I think I would put a digital divider after it and before the arduino - a divide by 64 or so would work. Something to reduce the frequency of the pulses to make...

    Cheapish 8cyl p pump

And this is why a NA IDI will do decently, but a NA Cummins... can barely get out of it's own way. Had a CAC boot come off due to not tightening it down on a '99 ram... Up to about 25 it was fine, and it'd get to 45 without issues. Beyond that it was just... not going to go faster. I got to 60...

    Best oil

I think if you really want to keep your oil really clean, go with a centrifuge solution: http://www.trucktrend.com/how-to/engine/1006dp-engine-oil-centrifuge-project-300/ I've been looking at doing it myself, and probably can do my setup for around the $300 mark... which, when you consider not...
