Is 11k a lot for one of these trucks?

Need a turbo if you expect to haul anything quickly. Plain and simple. Basically, a good turbo setup and fuel to match will easily double the to-the-ground HP of a 7.3. It can do the same to a 6.9, but you generally don't go that far unless you headstud it. I just pulled a 970 Bobcat(12K) on my...

e4od and how much to toughen it up?

Part of the problem, IMHO, is that speeds were lower back then, and power levels as well. I can totally see not having enough power/RPM to handle OD(E4OD or 5-speed) at 55MPH. It's different when you are going 65-70, with a turbo pushing 10+ PSI of boost and doubling your stock power levels...

Banks first gen or at turbo kit

Because it probably doesn't quite fit. I know the Banks 2.75" DP requires some "clearancing" of the firewall. Also, with the HP level Ford was targeting, the extra restriction didn't mean much. ---- OP, I'd suggest you look into adding a Wicked Wheel 2 to the kit while you have it out of the...

    Return line from ip

Leak engine oil out the weep hole I'd wager. Not that there's a whole lot of pressure on it either way(just crankcase pressure / dripped oil seeping along the shaft).

    Return line from ip

The orange one is a different material; I think it's for oil instead of fuel? (One of those three seals faces towards the front of the shaft, to keep oil out). As for doing what you did... I've done that before. I don't have the special seal tool, for installing those orange seals properly. Now...

    Front Cab Mounts

Just a thought... I have pulled the cab mount bolts out before and jacked the cab up(with everything still attached) by a couple of inches, enough to mess with the cab bushings. Seems like you might be able to pull bolts, jack it up, grind off the rivets(or torch them off), pull cab mount...

    2 to 4wd swap ideas

So... After all of this, it looks like I'm going to be going ahead with the 5-speed swap. The thing that made up my mind is that I just picked up a PTO-driven dump bed setup for it, really cheaply(and I can probably hijack the pump for plow cylinders as well). So I kind of need a PTO port...

Is this supposed to be like this

If you have a stick, don't worry about it - that part is only for automatic transmissions.

    Zf 5 manual transmission.

This is a 4x4 zf5 - anything with the trans brake was simply a 4x4 trans.

    Zf 5 manual transmission.

Price should be somewhere between $200 and $500 for the 4x4 ZF5. Transfer case should be $50-100 by itself.

    Fuel oil in 7.3 idi

I'd probably mix 50-50 with regular diesel just cause - fill tank halfway with regular diesel then add fuel oil. That will even things out. As far as water, it'll be on the bottom - so the first gallon or so you drain off of the tank, look at and see if it's contaminated. If it looks and smells...

Banks Sidewinder on an Interim 7.3 IDI

The only thing you might do differently is how you hook up the oil sender. The banks system I have pulls from the oil port on the driver's side next to the oil cooler; the factory turbo setups use the oil pressure sender port behind the intake manifold at the very rear of the motor... which is...

    Powerstroke flywheel fit IDI?

Just go with a Luk 07-225 flywheel, then add 1 extra quart of ATF to the ZF5 trans. That combo works nicely - you only hear gear rollover if you are below about 900 RPM or so in gear.

Banks Sidewinder on an Interim 7.3 IDI

I'd still check both. Not hard to just reach in and spin it. It should spin freely and you shouldn't be able to push the compressor sideways such that it scrapes the housing. As long as it doesn't scrape and there isn't noticable in/out play, it should be fine.

Banks Sidewinder on an Interim 7.3 IDI

Check for side/end play of both. Miles doesn't matter as much as bearing wear.

    That's It! I'm done.

I don't understand why head gaskets are so scary. It's not *that* hard to do them - I've literally done a motor pull, replaced gaskets, put it back together and reinstalled in the truck in 3 days of 6-8 hours before. You don't even have to pull the motor if you don't want to, it's just that if...

    Made it home somehow!

Get a LuK 07-225 SMF. It's not the clutch that slipped, it's the friction "torque limiter" disc inside the dual mass flywheel itself(which means you have to replace the flywheel, not just the disc). They seem to slip worse once you get everything hot.

Banks Sidewinder on an Interim 7.3 IDI

I think the Banks is a "tighter" setup - it spools faster; wastegate unhooked with a maxed out stock pump, you can max out the 15 psi Banks boost gauge easily enough. They are good for no more than 250 RWHP; it just can't push any more air through it than that. With a stock pump, you won't...

    How much straight pipe cost?

Personal experience is that N/A straight-piped is annoyingly loud. It gets old really quickly - a straight-through glasspack style muffler with the notches facing downwards(away from the exhaust stream) provides enough quieting to make it reasonable, without changing the tone too much. Turbo...

    Massive! oil consumption

I'd just mix up a gallon of oil-MMO mix and add that as required. So, say, 3 1/3 quarts oil, 2/3 quarts MMO in a gallon jug.

    I may have messed up

Why not just hack the two together? You just need the axle shell from the '92 axle, you can swap most of the other parts over. I'm not sure on the ring gear/carrier as to exactly what you need to get the tone ring back in there, but just the sensor and tone ring are all that's needed.

    Replace IP/Injectors or wait?

Yeah; add the turbo, EGT gauge, then crank the fuel... then you can think about more stuff. A stock pump/injectors can easily put out about twice as much fuel as you have now... Useless until you get the turbo, but totally needed once you do. Basically, right now if you took the truck and put...

    Clutch problems?

What it is is the DMF flywheel's "torque limiter" clutch is dying. The main clutch is fine, more than likely. Mine did exactly that - when it got hot, after a couple hours with a trailer, it started to slip. After cooling down it worked just fine for a few months until I replaced it with a SMF...

    Massive! oil consumption

Nah, it won't - it's more designed to limit boost pressure to 10-ish PSI of boost. I run mine disconnected, but at no time have I been able to get a factory turbo setup above about 16. This engine(with a sketchy valve somewhere) won't push more than 13, even with plenty of fuel(and making plenty...

    Oil Catch Can Drain Point

1" would be best, 3/4 would probably work.
