When the old guide , part of the head casting is drill out for a replacement there is a very thin part of it left , not enough to add any strength to the new guide. It is a very much a press it and will not come out.
These engine use two different sizes. The ETZ-9K260-A are for the line from filter head to IP one on ea end. The other is on the line from lift pup to IP , filter head end.
Don't know now days, but Havoline Oil use to be really bad , When uses to do rebuilds could always tell when someone use it, gray gummy film in engine that was a pain to get off. Have heard Penns is not good in Power Strokes, foams. causing injector to act up .
You can get that by using a wide ratio transmission. Did it to mine and I have a low low for starting out and backing up. I have to shift out of low pretty quick though once rolling.
I have never had very good success doing .Last for a while then starts again. With the engine out , upside down , all oil cleaned off pan and engine , then use gasket maker RTV it will solve the problem , but know that is not what you want to hear.
Probably have posted this picture before, but pull this load with mine all the time. Lift weighs 15000# Think 2 is as low as ever have had to go . Truck has a wide ratio trans which really help for heavy towing.
Also all it takes is one or two bad glow plugs to make them start hard. I would suggest stop using ether unless you are 100% sure glowplug system in not working at all. Still it is better to find the problem and get it working right again.
I had this happen on my 93, one time would start just fine go out and try different day no start. Ended up being the clutch safety switch. By passed it works just fine now. If a person is not comfortable doing bypass just replace the switch, I grow up driving truck without one so was no issue.
Couple more things to look for is the valve covers. drivers side should have a hole in it for the CDR ,and right side should have bracket for the glow plug controller. Also IIRC on the front of the block flat area by pump cover should be a stamping that has a T for turbo in it.
A silicone spray would probably work good too. I use it a lot on vinyl widow to keep them working smooth. Goes on and dries , will not collect dirt like other lubes.
I have used Rotella 15-40 the most , but also use Car Quest brand also, on sale a fair amount. I have never had any problem with my IDIs burning through oil. I guess I would have to see it happening.
I agree you will be ok running those if no worse the one in picture. Ok that you keep them in order , but was not necessary. I would say most professional rebuilders keep them in order when rebuilding. We never did and it never caused undo wear.
