Timing is really relative "in my opinion" basically (once again, my opinion) it should be just a hair advanced from the static mark.

If the bad connector is generating heat and the evaporator is freezing up....... wouldn't certain logic say use a worse connector to generate more heat to thaw out the evaporator?.......or am I thinking about this wrongly?

And yeah, there's a 3 stage sequence to torquing the heads. For a retorque, you'd back them out like a quarter turn and then torque as usual. If you do put on new head gaskets, you have to retorque after a thousand miles........I didn't the first time I did head gaskets...
