Why does my new set of heads have only the valve spring and no dampner? Both of the other sets of heads have the flat dampner spring inside of the spring. I know one set is off my original 89 7.3 motor. I was just taking out an exhaust and intake valve looking at what 370,000 miles of use looks like. I found the exhaust valve is worn deep into the seat by the head valve incert and the guides was slightly worn but the intake guide was soo shot. Also I found the exhaust valve seal in the correct location and thats in the keeper. It just broke up when I tried to remove it.

Dunno, but the springs I bought from IH last year were dual springs. Unless things have changed since then, they are still what's called for.
