Speedo flutter now limped e40d

94 f350 idit just started showing erratic speedometer at 30-40 mph and no tach.this continued a few days then speedo died and tach came back to life slightly. coincidentally just put new tires a week before I had problems 265/16s from 235 stock tires. Not sure if this would instigate an instrument issue but I changed out the vss on the pumpkin having had this problem b4 when my exhaust fell off and killed the vss except my gears were unharmed I just didn't know how fast I was going. Truck only has 1st and 2nd gear this time iv got bigger problems please help thanks.

the tach and the speedo both need to be operational in order for the E40D to properly function.

don't do as many do and condemn the big stuff first.
insure the trans relay and fuses in the power dist box and fuses in the cab are all good.

Does the odometer still display a number, that simply doesn't change? Or is it blank?

I can confirm cluster failure will handicap e4od. I bought a rebuilt cluster from ford programmed with my previous odometer reading.

If it's still displaying the number, the PSOM is _probably_ good, and your issue is with the VSS and/or wiring from VSS to PSOM. At least that's where to start looking.

Diff gearing is not a factor. Different size tire will make the speedometer inaccurate, but it won't make it flutter, and won't make the odometer fail to count.

Kk still can't find any bad fuses or wires so I'm limping around still but i discovered if I rev past 2.5k the truck will sputter till she shifts when warmed up. 1st gear then becomes really slow but I can reach comfortable speeds till I reach overdrive then it drops into neutral or just won't engage overdrive?

Going to remove my down pipe to get at the connection on transmission. I have a banks 3" pipe I wanted to put in any way it's sad I needed to be this handicapped to be motivated enough

Before I start that though I would like to know if someone could teach me how to use a test light if it's possible to check for power on the vss plug or how I could go about stabbing wires or w.e till I figure Y my speedo doesn't work;/
