atleast ours wasnt as bad as some other engines.... cough cummins cough

Easy money on both of those. Lock-stitch pin them and you're done. I've done several dozen 53 block dodges that cracked. The old IDIs are just as easy. Last one I did we used a steel plate to replace the block heater and stitch-pinned it in place.
