No crank

Alright but, I'm stumped. Truck sat for a year and today I put new batteries and a new starter in and went to crank it and nothing happened, starter didn't crank nor did the solenoid click. I jumped the solinoid and she fired right up. Everything else works. When the truck was left a year ago it was hard starting with long cranks and I smoked the starter, hence the new starter. Thoughts?

With this^ said, did you jump the 2 large terminals or pull the small trigger wire off and power it?
