New key switch wont shut truck off??? OBS PSD

Here's what I know....my good friend and neighbor msg'd me this morning and said that he put a NEW key switch in his truck. It starts, runs and drives fine as far as I know....the problem is now the switch won't shut the truck off. He said he has to pull the ECM fuse to kill it. So what happened?

Is the key cylinder catching on something and not returning all the way back to the off position? If not may need to pull it back out and clean it all up and lube it real good. If it is returning back, most likely the electrical switch part under the dash has some bad contacts or is shorted.

He said that when you turn the key to the off position that it has no resistance and doesn't shut it off.

Yeah sounds like the switch under the dash is bad. Should be bolted to the top of the steering column above the pedals. What happens if he turns it backwards to the accessory position?
