My sophistercated pop tester!

After all the frustration I had with trying to get a jack to work, I got mad and decided to just buy a hydraulic pump.

I found a guy selling these beauties on ebay:

So all told it cost me about $73. Apparently these are NOS pumps, the packaging mine came wrapped in was marked April 1985 or something like that, but they are made in the USA and very solid. I figured once I was done using it for my pop tester I could most likely use it for some other projects so it sounded like a good deal.

Today I threw it all together with some fittings to rig up a little tester:

Looks like it should work nicely, it holds pressure well and works way better than the jack ever did, that's for sure.

looks pretty damn good. and thanks for the idea of cutting the top off an old injector to attach the hard line to. that worked great.

Yeah I don't know how else I woulda done it. It was kinda hard to hold it together to weld, but man it works great.
