I've probably asked this but the search function with my phone sucks.... my auto advance on the side of the IP is now leaking, there's a diesel at the junkyard but peices are missing from the IP on that one... how much do I have to remove to get the advance off and replace it with a block off plug like the one on the passenger side of the pump.... I need about 2 months till I can replace the pump... (which I found to be original to the engine) and just need to keep from having fuel everywhere. Thanks

Iirc, the advance plunger is fairly important, and you can't just plug it off.
You can reveal it though.

I personally haven't done it.
But there was a fairly recent thread about it.
I believe you have to remove the ip to do it.

Removing the pump is the simple easy way to get at this seal but it can be done in the truck too. What you have to do is remove the lever pin clip. then pull out the lever pin. then remove the cap the seal rides in. Then have a injection pump repair shop replace the seal. The seal depth in the seal cap needs to be withing a 10 thousands tolerance. I'm not sure why but thats what the shop told me when I did this same repair. You also need a special seal driver to install it too.
