A bud of mine has a 01 3500 quad cab 6speed 24 valve, we just got the 4inch DP, and 4 inch straight done today. Were looking for a good open element intake kit, or a kick a$$ DIY intake, like the DIY tymar for the Powerstrokes. Thanks in advance guys!

Do a search on "BHAF"

Its a HUGE open element paper air filter.

If you buddy has the chash, I would stick with a AFE type filter, more money, but mo' flow!!!

I think the BHAF is the same filter as the tymar, only easier on a Dodge.
Just remove the stock air box and put something on the studs to protect the filter, the stock hose fits right on the new filter. There are a few different styles of heat shield plans floating around but most just lay it there or use a large zip tie.

I'm runnin the BHAF set up and I like it more the the older AFE filter I had. I think a big paper filter is hard to beat for a good combo of air flow and good filtration. That outerwares cover looks like a good idea. Think I get one of those!

Not here...
I'm also running a BHAF filter... So other can see the setup...:D

But I used (6) 6mm nuts. 3 nuts under the heatshield to hold the HS plate up a bit from the fender. Then the other 3 nuts on top. Now the top 3 nuts are flush with the studs. This now fixes a few problems... THe studs can't rub holes in the filter and it might keep the filter from rubbing the freon line under it... I'm using a piece of hose on my setup for rub protection...
