some have one some dont ,why ???? no one knows i dont know ,converter holds several quarts .changeing the trans fluid without draining the converter ,like drinking a beer with a cigrette but in it .....well get you a 1/8 pipe tap and drill bit and a brass 1/8 pipe plug ,on the converter you will see the tool lines around the surface ,look for the wider spaced ones usually at the stud but not always this is where its thicker metal ,,,on the factory ford anyways ,you need to drill 1"inch on center away from the weld around the converter this must be accurate or you can hit the clutch if to close to the edge ,i think i can post a photo of the one i installed i will post photos if any interested

It should be balanced after installing a plug. It's not necessary to have a plug if the fluid is changed like this, it flushes the TC and all the clutch cylinders. http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?29319-Flushing-a-E4OD-or-4R100

The aux cooler should be flushed also, it contains a quart or two, depending on it's size.

An ounce of weight on a 12" diameter spining at 2000 RPM is a lot of out of balance. You may not notice it right away, but it could cause a cracked flex plate, loose TC to flex nuts/bolts, wallowed out bolt holes.

Just saying.

Drain plugs are not needed. Just about all transmission shops use flush machines to clean out a tranny. You can do a flush at home with a little help from the internet.

On a multi disk converter there is no room for a drain plug. The plug will end up in the lock up clutch.

uhhh no it does not need to be balanced ,reason when the hole is drilled for the plug, the metal removed is the same weight as the brass plug being installed ,

IF YOU HAVE A MULTI DISC CONVERTER ,,OR BRING YOURE TRUCK TO A SHOP WITH EXPENISIVE TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE ING EQUIPMENT ,THEN YOU DONT NEED TO INSTALL THE CONVERTER DRAIN PLUG .................IF YOU ARE A DO YOURE SELF PERSON THEN THIS MAY APPLY TO YOU ..

Hmmm. That's interesting.

You can also flush it like them fancy machines by removing the cooler outlet line and running it into a bucket with the engine running. Adding fluid as it comes out. Keep going until new fluid comes out.
Doesn't require adding a drain plug either.

yes sounds about right ,however the metal removed from drilling the hole is equal to the plug installed so no balance issues with the plug install ,,
