I just pulled my hard-worked 6.9 at some over 1/2 million miles.
I have never had a starting issue, no matter how cold.
A/C DELCO glow plugs and a new controller were installed over 10 years ago.
When I got the engine out in the light, I found the third from front/driver side glow-plug wire hanging with all insulation burned away.
The plug itself was gone except for the threaded part in the head.
What could have caused this??
I never knew it was gone until I pulled the engine.
Even in the coldest weather, it hardly turned over before it fired.
I have no idea how long ago the damage occurred; but the pocket was near full of oiley pine-needles, dead bugs, etc., so it has been a while.
