getrag and cold start problems

we have a 92 4x4 that started having problems going into gear,5 spd getrag.it acts like the clutch is slightly engaged but it goes into rev fine.all the sycro,ed gears are hard to engage.i pulled it all out and dont see much wrong w/ the trans nor clutch.im i missing something? we put a new lower slave on it also.there were a few small pcs of steel in the bottom of the trans.also when cold starting the wait light comes on only after you try and engage the starter,and then it stays on way to long of a time and the truck starts really hard,help we need some answers,thanks,mike

Sounds like a failing pressure plate.

Also could be a bent/worn shift-fork.

Does the truck try to pull with the clutch depressed/released??

i pulled the trans and clutch out and i cannot move the shift collars,i took it to the local trans shop for inspection,and the trans acted like the input shaft and output shafts are fused together,nice,thaanks for your reply
