Hello everyone, I am in search of a new T-19 Transmission and I found a rebuilt one for sale for a decent price. My question is would a gas 4x4 T-19 work in my 4x4 6.9 idi?
I would hold off for a diesel trans. First gear would be ridiculously low for a diesel, and 2, 3, & 4 would be pretty far apart if you were towing heavy.
T19 does not have a low gear from a 460 truck. if you can find info online, the ratios are same on the T19 from 460 or diesel truck. I'm not 100% on this but I used a 1984 T19 on my 86 6.9 diesel truck because it was the only one I could find and I found no difference in RPMs shifting at the same speeds.
T19 is hard to find now rebuilt especially , they haven't been used in a Ford for 30years now............
I've seen lots of T18s that people were trying to pass off as T19s also. some people are stupid but some are just trying to rip off.
good luck and be carefull.
I have a couple t-19s that I pulled from 84 460 4x4s, both are wide ratio, with a first gear like it should be in a pickup (regardless gas or diesel).
I used one in another truck of mine a few years ago, and the low first gear was really nice...don't know why they put a worthless 4:1 ratio first in a pickup.
