what filters did you have in mind. Sounds like a simple but effective modification.

That one is a Donaldson from the tractor store. 12 microns. Low enough?

Guy who bought a C6 off me yesterday sent me that pic.

Should be 10 microns on the old mechanical injected diesels, 3 microns on electric injectors. Donaldson has them

I don't think 12 microns is low enough. I run a 12-20 micron pre filter on various things, and I like to get down to 6 or lower for a secondary. 6.9's had a factory 6 micron. 7.3's were 10 or something. which was too high for my liking.
We have enough things working against us in life, lets at least get our fuel as clean as we can before feeding it into our old pumps

Hi in the Cascades, Nearly- Redmond,Oregon
Yrs ago on my '90 & '92 IDI I got rid of my factory expensive fuel filter set-up, did similar re mod, bought filter head that can use about a million different filters. That way no matter where I'm at I can find a filter.
The filter I currently running is a tall Fleetguard FS 1212, have run FS 1210, & several others. A FF105 will fit etc, etc.
I used be in trucking business & put a Cat fuel/water separator that had a screen (#9m2342) inside a canister (don't remember complete kit part #) on all my trucks prefilter. This what I did on my IDI's
Last time I checked with Cat the complete kit (used to cost about $150) is now obsolete & to put one together pieces & parts have to be ordered from various places & Cat's price was about $450.... too much for me!!!

I think I pay about $25-30 for an oem style Donaldson filter. Doesn’t seem overly expensive or hard to come by for me.

I've got 2 filters on the bus. Primary is a 30 micron racor auqabloc filter/water seperator, secondary is the factory bus filter at 6 micron. I've ordered a replacement secondary filter that's rated at 2, and will monitor fuel pressure to know when to change it.

I agree with the others, in that you should run something smaller then 12 micron as a secondary/final filter. 2 will probably be too little in my case, but I'll play it by ear and see.

IIRC the Fleetguard filter head cost about $22 and couple yr ago the place was selling out to Cat so I bought 3 cases of FS 1212 filters for about $11.50 ea to hold me. Also bought several water filters with DCA4 in them for my coolant bypass before they sold out to Cat!!
