from axle banging

02 f350 psd cc 104k. going into 4x4 electricaly as soon as it locks it makes a loud bang and the truck learches????? its in 2wd right now but afraid to go into 4wd. it has done this 2 times now and once it got stuck in 4wd. any ideas to look at??? i have not yet opened the diff or the case.

use 4x4 a lot--may have one of the axle knuckles out--or going--and they will cause this--because of binding---

sometimes the front auto hubs are slow to lock and they will bang and lurch when you give it fuel as the rears spin and the front catches. this is why i manually lock mine when i need true 4x4. the auto setting is too touch and go

the knuckles are same as the u-joints right??
