In the final months of my '90 IDI's well hammered 300+ k mi life, I was adding a gallon a day yet the 'ol girl NEVER failed to light off after a couple spins

Glad to here that such oil consumption does happen. Well, not really but I think you get my point... My engine has who knows how many miles on it. It was probably due for some work anyway. I think the guy who sold it to me knew this but wasn't going to rebuild it. Can't blame him really. I didn't think it would need THIS much work.
