if you have the stock axle its probably a d44hd or a d50. A d60/61 is a straight axle only found in the 1 tons. why do you want a D61 just for the 3.08s?

You most likely have the Dana 44 Twin Traction Beam (TTB) It's that goofy tire eating, semi independent front suspension used by ford for decades.

A Dana 60 is what you probably want. It's a beefy straight axle, and the one you want is found on one ton fords. As how to identify it, I am not sure.

Some quick research shows that a Dana 61 is a variant of a Dana 60. As far as I can tell, it has mainly internal modifications with an offset pinion to allow the use of lower ( numerically speaking) gears. A Dana 60 would be your best bet. They come in gear ratios that are compatible with your truck. It sounds like the 61 is only available with low numbered gears, i.e. 3.07.

the rear is most likely a sterling 10.25. the only dana rear axles that I know of are the 70 and 80 that were offered in the F-series

I put a Dana 61 in the Moosestang with 3.08's. Gave me exactly what I wanted. Finding one is hard. I tried to futility for the Scarlet Moose. I'm told a Ford 10.25 will accept 3.08 gears with some slight grinding of the housing, and 10.25's are abundant and relatively identical to the Dana 70. All the brake parts will swap right over, and I heard a rumour that the hubs do too, but I'm not clear on that yet.

I have a Ford 61 rear axle from a 83 f230 2wd. The door code didn't come up on most of the code charts. Ill get a few pictures of it up.
