I am helping with another IDI rebuild. I am looking for specs so I can check the cam for wear. Also if I need one where to buy a cam and lifters from? I saw one from Hypermax for $575 The engine has about 200k on it, I know they can go longer but since it is being rebuilt for other reasons I would hate to do a half *** job.

As far as specs go you need to post which engine...6.9 or 7.3 and the year.


You can get a cam & lifters from about any autoparts source like Napa, Advance, carquest, International, Ford etc but why buy components individually if doing a complete rebuild, Consider getting a Master rebuild kit that contains a cam & lifters, gaskets, pistons, rings etc...... Usually cheaper to go this route. NAPA carries the master kit for around $2k and I'm sure you can find a comparable if not the same kit cheaper elsewhere.

If you do reuse the cam & lifters because they are in spec just make sure you keep each lifter with the same lobe it originally rode on to keeps it from eating the lobes in short order.
