Well been a while...have to get use to the new look on the forum... Well Sunday wife was driving the ole IDI from church when it started vibrating bad and then a loud clanking sound. So I thought great, just swapped it from a C6 to a 5pd and thought the clutch came apart. I tore it down and Holy cow....broke crank! I thought that was rare as hen's teeth....anybody else done that?

Pretty rare on the fords.
Somewhat occasionally common for the 6.2/6.5.

Where did it break?

From the sound of it (don't know actually)...about 4" from the back. Looking for another 7.3 to replace it with...

Did you use the correct flywheel? Turbo flywheels are balanced different. Could be a contributing factor.

I got a few cranks around I'd make a screaming deal on if you go that route.

92 and 88 should be fine flywheel wise. 93-94 factory turbo trucks have the different flywheels.

Wow! that sucks. I have a hard time believing the 5-speed swap had anything to do with it. Broken cranks are not common. Sorry you get to experience that.
