I was told to put my batteries on charge separately and not while they are connected together. (Which I do)

My question is: How does the alternator successfully charge both batteries at the same time, but a battery charger won't/can't?

Thanks

There's absolutely no reason to charge batteries seperately. Even if they hold different levels of charge, they will equalize as soon as you hook them back together.

The only bad thing I can see is if you had a bad battery and used an automatic charger. The charger would keep running and overheat the good battery. But the problem is the bad battery, not the charging method.

Keep in mind that the slower you can charge a battery, the better. A fast charge heats up the lead plates and can cause the electrolyte to boil.

Thanks for the info...

My "Fastest" charger is an old 8AMP one, that was donated by my dad. My other one is built-in to my jumper pack and is 2AMP.

I tend to use the 8AMP, mostly because it has a meter on the front.

Yea. The only reason to seperate them is if you think one is bad.
