On top of my hose leak, now the R134a valve-core has started leaking.

Before that, I could add a can of juice and get about four days of cooling, before the pressure-switch would start shutting off the compressor.

The last can I added, I noticed the valve spewing a little.

I screwed the plastic cap on good and tight, but I didn't even get one cool day this time.

Are these valve-cores all the same, regardless of make/model ??

Although I have heard them called Schraeder Valves, I assume they are completely different from a tire valve, or are they ??

What kind of tool do I need to switch the core ??

Thanks.

Parts store will have the things. Not sure if that one is standard or not. you'll need to get one of those double ended ac valve core tools and pop the thing out and match it up , there are more than one size. Usually you find the oddballs on the low sides.

My A/C man fixed me up with a whole new fitting, including a new core.

I used a standard tire valve-core tool and removed the valve-core from the old leaking fitting.

What I found was a core identical to the standard short style tire cores and I have all confidence that one of the red-banded high-pressure truck-tire cores would be a suitable replacement.

Low-pressure car-tire cores have a black band.

The one I removed from the A/C valve had a blue band.

I just thought I would report on this for future reference.
