while i was doing my balljoints i noticed the truck a good amount of oil leaks. I was thinking when i get the money to do a mild overhaul, putting new gaskets, main bearings, rod bearings, piston rings, and valve seals, along with a injection pump and injectors. Does this sound like a good idea or should just throw a complete gasket kit into it and be done?:dunno It doesn't have blow by or burn oil just leaks a bit

A good way to help you make up your mind would be to do a few simple but informative tests. A compression test and a used oil analysis. If both are good, you could just regasket the engine and go.

That's what I did with my 322,000 mile 6.9 in the crew cab. The compression was superb and I had just a trace of coolant in the UOA from a known leaking head gasket. I replaced the gaskets/seals and added studs and a turbo. I'll put another 300,000 on it before needing to rebuild it (I hope).

Heath.
