The later years are better, but it can still happen. I have an 03 that is stock at 95k and has the factory gaskets in it. I think what happenes is one of 2 things, a programmer is installed on the truck, and the power is turned up above design limits and the heads get lifted, just like overboosting and IDI, or if the EGR cooler plugs and/or the oil cooler plugs, it can cause an overheat, that can take out the gaskets. Not saying that keeping it stock will prevent head gasket issues, nor that a programmer is going to kill it, but overpowering the engine could cause damage. One thing that I am going to do is install a coolant filter in mine, because the EGR cooler can plug with the crap that floats around in the coolant. The EGT cooler is first inline before the Oil Cooler.... so $130 now on a filter could help prevent a $500 EGR Cooler + labor replacement, or a $1500 + head gasket replacement..... sounds pretty "cheap" to me when I look at it that way......
