A few months ago I replaced the turn-out style stacks with straights and mounted 5" chrome rain caps on them. I always wanted to do it but was reluctant because i didnt know if the ole girl could push 5" of steel off the tip of the stacks........well finally i decided to do it regardless and it turned out well.........she has plenty of black exhaust to push the caps, however i had to turn them sideways so they arent pushed by the wind while going down the road.
I don't have the pics up yet but will update them soon!

CG,
Youre the picture queen, get out there and snap a few shots of it, preferably one with a good shot of soot and post them please.

If I ever did stacks then the flappers would have been my first choice. Do they go ting ting ting when she's idling? If so ;Sweet

Yes pictures are required at this point in time.

I'm thinking about replacing the 5" straight pipe out the back with twin 5", but i am not a fan of flappers, i will either go with the turn outs or the coffee cans, since it doesn't stop raining here, in the middle of winter.

Actually they dont "ting ting ting" when its idling. I think it is because the pressure is constant under them. With two stacks the pressure under one cap is equal to half of the pressure in a single stack system. Therefore, the cap opening height at idle is half as much as you would expect. They arent open very much at idle, from a distance they look completely closed.
I will post some pics this weekend so keep your eyes peeled!

I've found even with turn outs you still need a cover if your worried about water getting in your exhaust so get what you want I wanted the straights with 45deg. miter cuts and a lot of buffing to get the soot off my diamond tread:rolleyes: :)

I had the turn outs for about 3 years and never had any problem with water getting in them. The truck sits outside year round. Sure there is some water that makes its way in there but it never hurt anything. You're right it might cause a few black specks on the bed, etc., but a few black specks never hurt anybody!
Besides wiping the specks off during a wash is a lot easier than worring about putting covers over every time you get out or take off.
