    Bearing On It's Way Out?

So now it's getting worse-go figure.. I was quoted $1200-cuss for a guy to do all the work to pull it and rebuild it, but I don't have that kind of money. My alternate would be to just swap in a used one, unless it is something stupid simple. I'm gonna pull the side covers in the morning...

    Bearing On It's Way Out?

Oil leaks out when you pull the fill, and it's nearly as clean as it was when I filled it a year ago. No center support bearing, and the u-joints look to be good but I suppose anything is possible..

    Bearing On It's Way Out?

Sorry I should have worded that different; it does it while in gear. No other symptoms, but easy engagement, and smooth shifting.

Lucas Trans Stop leak and the C6

I've used the stuff before in a couple of my old trucks and my results were mixed, though none bad. One truck, it made no difference, but in the other, I experienced what you've described. It may have been all in my head though...

    Bearing On It's Way Out?

Just this last week I noticed that in 3rd gear(T19), between 1800-2300rpm, I hear something that sounds a lot like a mouse's feet running across a bare floor, if that makes sense. It started out just an occasional "chirp", but now it does it everytime I'm in 3rd. Someone said it might be a...

    1974 F350 CC/LB

Passing through Cut-N-Shoot today, I passed a body shop with this litttle gem. I went back for a better look, but unfortunately the shop was closed. Anyway, it's a 74 with a 460 and I think it was an auto (forgot to look :dunno ). Called the number and the guy said he wants $4500. It's a...

    tire questions

My dad just picked up a 90 F350 dually that had 255/75/16s on the rear, on only one side . Don't know what the PO was thinking when he put that one together, but needless to say, the sidewalls are glazed and the rubber is considerably softer where they were rubbing. They have plenty of...

    battery cables????

I have an 86 IDI and the GF has a 97 PSD, and I can say pretty confidently that the cables, side by side, look almost exactly the same. That being said, I'd bet that if there was any difference, it'd probably be that the newer stuff is heavier gauge deal with higher load requirements. Just...

    91 G20

My dad has a :puke:91 G20 Van:puke: that's been giving him fits for some time, and now he's come down to visit and he's not sure he'll make it back home. It's got a TBI 350 with a nasty surge at idle. They've chased down other problems, and to date it has a complete new distributor, plugs...

    Mirrors

I had this same problem on the old truck... short story I just bought one of those cheapo replacement heads from the local parts store and swapped in the glass. Same size and shape.

    What happens?

The guy that does the maintainence on our work trucks is supposed to know Powerstrokes pretty good (worked for Ford) and he said that the way that the injectors are fired is kinda like a failsafe, since supposedlly they wont fire without enough oil... BUT... I have personally driven a...

    $60 for coolant test strips?!!

If we knew those things were that expensive when we worked at the truckstop, maybe we wouldn't have dropped so many on the floor. Or maybe we would have taken some home instead...;Really

How Do i Get more fuel!

I've done this one a while back... supposedly if you put a bb between the spring and the bolt that holds it in it puts the spring under more tension equaling more fuel pressure. Did it on my old truck and don't remember it making a whole lot of difference but it didn't hurt either.

    Not Dead Yet...

Needing help with my girlfriend's 97 Powerstroke. It idles really rough when you start it (like it's stone cold) every time since she put some diesel in this afternoon. It drove fine, and only lopes for the first 30 seconds or so. Drained some stuff outta the water seperator, and it lit off...

    Freeway Driving

My deal is that at 70+ it pretty much sounds like the truck is coming apart, and around 80 it begins to feel like it. But the way you guys are saying, that's normal. I think I may end up trying to stay with the speed limit though. Might save some money like that...

    Freeway Driving

How fast do you guys run on the freeway? I'm in Houston all the time and traffic regularly moves along at 75-80mph. My truck will do that, but with no overdrive, the old 6.9 really sounds like she's screaming. I don't have 4.10s or anything, but I was just wondering if it's really safe to be...

    slave cylinder question

What I had read was that, among what has been said already, it's purpose is to provide a slick surface for the rod to wear against, as opposed to metal to metal contact. Don't know if it makes much difference, but I know that when I put mine on, it didn't break the tabs off so when I had to...

    Front seat replacments?

I had the 40-20-40 seat in my old 95 and either side slid independently of each other; only the center part remained stationary. Hope this helps.

    Random No-Start

Earlier tonight we went out to eat and when we came back out the truck wouldn't start. No GP light, no dome light, nothing except dim tail lights. The dome light wouldn't even come on if you turned it on at the switch. I got out and made sure the battery cables hadn't wiggled loose and they...

    New Truck, New Sound

The thing about it is you really don't feel anything to go with the noise. Turn the radio up and you forget about it. But I know it's there, hammering away...

    New Truck, New Sound

I've got a pretty good idea of why it won't start right. What I don't know is what's making the little ticking noise. Injector? Lifter? Something touching one of my injector lines? By the way, nothing is touching my injector lines.

Were you dealing with the noise, or the hard starts? I knew my plan of attack on the starting issues, but can that be related to my noise?

    New Truck, New Sound

Thanks for that, but it wasn't much help. I know that ether isn't the best thing for these engines, but it's been a necessary evil lately. The truck sat for about three months before I bought it, and the pguy I got it from said it only needed ether if it sat a couple days, and it had progressed...

    New Truck, New Sound

Thats good news. But I also forgot to mention that one of the few pre-existing problems was that you have to shoot a tiny shot of ether any time the engine has cooled down, otherwise it'll crank for probably a minute before it fires. Previous owner mentioned that it started doing that a couple...
