Did you rebuild the IDM yourself? Or did you send it out to be repaired?

    Broken Glow plug tip solved

lol. It was a test of my patience. But it beat the alternative of pulling the motor. I wasn’t working on it the whole time of course. There was delivery wait periods in there for the tool kit and borescope. But I did spend a couple hours on it each day for three days. I would joke with my...

    Broken Glow plug tip solved

With the camera once again providing a clear view of what was going on in the cylinder. I made me a better fishing tool. I used the magnet that came with the $49 Amazon scope and built the below tool. It is just mechanics wire and the magnet attachment from the scope put together tightly so...

    Broken Glow plug tip solved

This will most likely be a long post. I apologize for that in advance. However, I feel led to share my experience with the great people of this forum so it may help someone hearing about my successes and failures during this process. It all started as I was replacing the glow plugs in my wifes...

    Code P1298 help

I received the parts and started the work when disaster struck. One of the glow plugs broke off in the head. I did eventually get it out, which I am going to create a new thread on that fiasco so that maybe my experience can help anyone else with my same bad luck. Now that I have overcome that...

I have not updated in a while because the issue is so random. But I did end up replacing the engine speed sensor as well as the throttle position sensor. Or whatever they called it in 94. This did help, I think. I aligned my TPS for 1.18 volts at closed throttle. It did not want to get to the...

    1994 7.3 IDI Swap out

While apart, look at the tips of your valves and rocker arms for wear. While I had my 94 7.3 IDI out for a broken glow plug tip removal, I noticed two valves with excessive wear on the intake valve tips as well as on the corresponding rocker arms. Truck was running fine with no signs of issues...

    Code P1298 help

Thank you both for your input. I am still waiting for the gaskets, UVCH, pigtails, and glow plugs to arrive. Estimated delivery is around the first of February. Once those parts arrive, I’ll replace them and then see about clearing the codes. I’m new to this Auto Enginuity scan software. When...

    Code P1298 help

Long story short. My wife’s 1997 7.3 powerstroke is having rough start issues. We originally thought it might have bad injectors but I trouble shot that down to 3 bad glow plugs and passenger side valve cover gasket plug has a burnt glow plug contact. I ordered Motorcraft gaskets, UVCH, and...

Unfortunately I am still chasing this issue. It went away for a while but now is back. I have ordered an engine speed sensor as well as a TPS both Motorcraft brand. I’ll install those and see if anything changes.

    She swallowed a glow plug

I ended up doing the manual push button modification on mine to see if this helps the glow plugs last longer. I have had at least one glow plug burn out with in two to three months ever since owning this truck. My hope is this will help them last longer. We will see.

Ok. So the little two wire sensor I took a picture of in my previous post with some oil on the wires is the only source for engine speed the computer compares to vehicle speed to determine transmission slippage. My truck is extremely slow. Meaning, she is really sluggish. I have no other...

Unfortunately, I’m still not trouble free. With everything I have done so far, the tranny has never shifted and felt better than it does right now. But I am still getting the limp mode once in a while. Still hot on the trail to solve this mystery. Does anyone know what exactly what parameters...

I did drive the truck on an hour long trip today without the in line filter. The transmission shifted better than it ever has. No blinking light. Now I’m not celebrating just yet, because it was intermittent to begin with. But it certainly feels like it has improved. When I returned from the...

Good to know. I believe they put those filters on to protect the new transmission from all the crap the old transmission may have spit into the tranny cooler lines, radiator, and other cooler. This transmission has been in this truck for many years at this point. I’m guessing any rebuild that...

I did go ahead and remove the in line filter I found in the cooling lines. This thing was certainly causing a restriction. Was it causing all of my problems? Don’t know yet. But when I pulled it, I could not blow through it. I blew through it opposite direction of flow and some crap came out...

Am I misunderstanding what the code 26 is? I thought it was Transmission Oil Temperature Sensor. If that’s the case, I am assuming that I didn’t get the transmission up to operating temperature before running the codes. And it pulled that code because the temp was out of range. Am I wrong about...

I think my next step is to remove that in line filter and see what happens. Unless it has to be there.

Another E4OD flashing OD light thread

I’m starting to think I got that code because it is only 10 degrees outside and I don’t think the tranny was warmed up. I will have to drive the truck and then rerun the codes. I did previously remove all electrical connections to the tranny including the solenoid pack connector. Cleaned them...

Also. I noticed what appears to be an in line filter in the transmission cooling lines. Little thing about the size of an aftermarket fuel filter like we used to run on our carbureted cars. I’m curious if that thing could be causing a restriction and maybe starving the tranny of fluid. Just a...

Rechecked fluid level. It is spot on. Cleaned both grounds from battery to engine. Found one ground from back of engine to body. Cleaned that one as well. I did not find any grounds from frame/body to tranny. So I ran a separate ground from battery to transmission. I just did this today, and...

It’s 10 degrees here today. Is it possible the code 26 was because the tranny fluid is not up operating temperatures?

Just tested the FIPL. It was at 1.35 volts at closed idle position. So I adjusted it to 1.193 volts. That’s the closest I could get it to stay at. It now reads 1.193 volts at idle and 4.034 volts at wide open throttle. I read it should be 1.2 volts and 4.5 volts at wide open. Are my readings OK...

Looking at the RPM sensor. The wires look good and the connector looks good. But there is what looks like possible oil fowling coming out from around the wires that enter the sensor itself. Not sure if it is normal to have oil on the sensor or not. This engine did just get redone with all new...

I did research the 23 code. Apparently you have to hold the throttle open during the test. Since I was by myself, I didn’t do that. So that is most likely the cause for the 23 code. But what about that 26 code? I’m still unsure what that is.
