    1984 6.9 IDI, C6, 4WD, Broken Transmission Adapter (Because I'm stupid).

Good advice on all fronts, thank you. The motor currently spins freely with no noise (and seemed to have some compression), so I'm hopeful that I didn't do too much damage. If I did bend a rod then it's going to get interesting.

Easy for you maybe  I'll be down there again to look at it before I do this job . . . so I'll better assess whether my sliding theory makes any sense. You're right that T-Case movement might be an issue.

    1984 6.9 IDI, C6, 4WD, Broken Transmission Adapter (Because I'm stupid).

I've got a meaty transmission jack with straps and everything that rolls pretty well . . . I'll have everything ready to go for this, but my hope is that i don't have to start bringing that thing down and I can just slide everything back. The last time I installed a transmission (4l80e) I...

    1984 6.9 IDI, C6, 4WD, Broken Transmission Adapter (Because I'm stupid).

In the other thread they talk about the ether - glow plug thing as if it is common knowledge . . . I assure you it wasn't common knowledge to me (though it makes sense in hindsight) - though I'll never forget now. Do you need to drop them, or do you think it might be possible to just remove the...

    1984 6.9 IDI, C6, 4WD, Broken Transmission Adapter (Because I'm stupid).

I was using starting fluid (ether) and glow plugs to start my IDI, and apparently that's a bad idea. ( https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1368316-1984-ford-f250-idi-automatic-transmission-adapter.html ). I seem to have facilitated the engine deciding to spin the opposite direction against the...

    C6 VRV Engagement Question . . .

You sir, are a hero. Like I said, I tried to rebuild a trans using detailed videos and yada yada . . . and it was failing after 2k miles (but I do take some satisfaction in the fact that it did work well enough for me to drive it around and tow something with the truck . . . which means I...

    C6 VRV Engagement Question . . .

XOLATEM, oh, and I used the B&M shift kit - which a lot of people said wasn't worth the effort (it is a very basic kit that seems to not do much - but I haven't had the transmission working properly the whole time, so I'm probably not the right one to assess it) - but I was in there and was...

    C6 VRV Engagement Question . . .

XOLATEM, Thank you for the thorough analysis. Having (badly) rebuilt a 4L80e before (it was drivable, but I believe the shaft bearing somehow unseated itself, causing havoc . . . which resulted in an ~$5k learning experience) I figured the part was something important, and ultimately meant the...

    C6 VRV Engagement Question . . .

Anything unique about that pin, or can I craft anything that has the strength to turn the VRV and sits in place? Thank you.

Messed up the picture links before - should work now.

    C6 VRV Engagement Question . . .

My C6 is shifting into 2nd at 10mph, and 3rd at 15mph - I'm working through the possibilities, but have a basic question that I don't think has been covered. For background: I've replaced the filter and fluid (Type F) (neither filter nor fluid looked bad - but this did come out of the pan -...

    Hard start, not fuel return[?]

Looking forward to the concluding report on this. Your symptoms are my truck exactly . . . and I've gone through about 1/2 of what you have. I think I have 7 working glow plugs (ZD28). One is broke, bad, and completely stuck (as in have to pull the head - no getting out with any type of e-z...
