    E4OD electric gremlins

I feel your pain. Mine ('89 idi) had/has the same issue with the tach. Tach reading 0, tranny won't work. Tach reading, tranny shifts great. I replaced the ECM with a rebuilt one. Not much better until one day the wife hit the dash console hard ( on purpose while she was cleaning ) and the tach...

Has anyone converted their R12 AC to 134a?

Thanks, guys! Great info...I appreciate it.

Has anyone converted their R12 AC to 134a?

The shops want big bucks to convert my air conditioner from R12. How do you get all the old oil out of the system? How much do you put back in? How much vacuum do you pull on the system? Etc. Any information or experience would be appreciated. Thanks!

So what did you do with your truck today?

I filled mine up. That almost doubled the value of mine.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I love to pay with cash. What really throws them for a loop is when you round up for them, so they can give you back a whole dollar or so. My total was like $12.07. I gave them $22.07. They gave me back the $2.07 and THEN gave me back $8!!! No wonder this country is the way it is. That was at a...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Is that a SIX door pickup truck? I don't think I've ever seen one like that! Badass. I bet it's like turning a locomotive. So much for the Starbuck's drive thru!!! What year is the Ranchero? Looks like an '62 or maybe a little later. Nice score!

    Quick Alternator Question 1988 7.3

My 1989 has an external regulator and rectifier. I assume due to the fact that it's a 200 amp alternator. It is the ambulance package so it used t run a boat load of stuff that I don't neeed anymore. When I got the ambulance I had to rebuild the alternator. Now, I'm thinking of downsizing to...

    Recommendation for refurbished EEC

Sorry for the confusion, the ORIGINAL problem was the tach not working and the tranny not working. I learned that the problems were connected. I knew absolutely nothing about this system when I started. Truth be told, I still don't know 1/10th. I had tried cleaning, torqueing and then replacing...

    Recommendation for refurbished EEC

SUCCESS!!! I got the new (rebuilt) TECA installed today. It worked like a champ first time I turned the key. I tried it a few more times and it worked so. I took Black Betty out for a drive to make sure she shifted ok. I never had any issues with the transmission that I noticed. Just that...

    Recommendation for refurbished EEC

Thanks! I pulled to old one out and got the part number off of it. I found one on Ebay. I bought the extra warranty in case it's junk, but the seller seemed to be in business for a while. My wife located a place called Transmission exchange in Portland. I had already ordered the Ebay one...

Does anyone know where I can get a refurbished EEC for my 1989 7.3 IDI with E4OD?

So what did you do with your truck today?

Did it start out with: "Hold my beer!" or, "Hey Y'all, watch this!"? I have a similar picture of my brother after his 260Z went airborne and landed on it's side in a field and slid about 20 yards. Good times have a price....usually it's worth it. Glad you are OK, bro!

Truck won't start with new starter/starter solenoid

Man, I'm glad it wasn't the engine locked up!!! I replaced my positive cable, too. I found that the clamp was cracked almost in two. I also found a LARGE positive cable running to the ambulance box that had been routed to lay on the exhaust pipe. It had burnt through about 50%. I was able to...

Tachometer works, tranny works. Tach doesn't work, tranny slips bad

Right on, bro, on all counts. I will track it down. I will have some time over the weekend to stick my head under the hood and poke around. It's amazing that the older I get the more patience I have. It's counter to reality. I have fewer days ahead than behind so. you would think I would be in...

Where to measure to make sure voltage regulator isn’t killing batteries?

Hmmmm...I wonder if that E4OD power relay could be a common denominator in my rigs' intermittent problem of the tach reading zero causing the tranny not to work AND, be the cause of the parasitic draw on my batteries. If that relay is bad could it cause my tach to not work? Is that relay...

Where to measure to make sure voltage regulator isn’t killing batteries?

I had to replace my batteries, too. Luckily, COSTCO didn't ask any questions. I have a parasitic draw, somewhere, and I don't run the truck much. It's a camper now. To solve the issue I installed a couple of blade type battery switches on both negative terminals. It's an extra step, and probably...

Tachometer works, tranny works. Tach doesn't work, tranny slips bad

I haven't noticed the OD light on or flashing but, I will check it at night to see if it is dim. I'm starting to lean on it being a bad ground. Somewhere. The reason I'm thinking that is the sound of the buzzer fluctuates and, also, if the tach is NOT going to work, the instant I turn the key...

Tachometer works, tranny works. Tach doesn't work, tranny slips bad

Thanks a bunch. I broke down and bought the service manual on DVD. It was thirty bucks. Learning to read it is where I'm at now. I'm trying to figure out where the "Break Out Box" is and what it looks like. When I find it I will be able to start checking it out the right way. It acted up again...

Tachometer works, tranny works. Tach doesn't work, tranny slips bad

Well, the gremlin is back. After putting in a new OEM sensor it ran ok for months. Today I got in to drive it and no tach reading, no transmission function. I cleaned the sensor and ohmed it out. Still nothing. I checked the fuse to the tach. It's in the #8 position on my fuse panel. It was ok...

    Road Trips

A meet up would be excellent. It's got some good 4x4 trails, too. My adult kids followed us in my Tacoma TRD Off-road. We rode the trails in the daytime and watched the sky at night. Not to be spooky, but there is some strange stuff in the night sky. Probably military, but it isn't planes...

    Road Trips

If you like desolation with drinking water, showers, flush toilets and NO RV's ALLOWED, try Big Bend Ranch State Park. Yes, it's a state park. Buy an annual pass and it's good for all Texas State Parks. BBRSP is 311,000 acres. Lots of isolated, single campsites, NO paved roads. It takes one hour...

93 idi with the e40d downshifts when turning headlights on!

Hope you and Lefty are doing ok!!! I would agree that grounds are the first thing to check. My ambulance has a lot of fiberglass that at first glance seems like aluminum. It's not, and makes it hard to find good grounds. I'm going through some wiring nightmares myself. Mostly too many wires to...

    Brake question?

Similar observation on my '89. When the engine is cold, no boost to the power brakes. After a bit the brakes act fine. I'll check the vacuum pump, hoses. What should the vacuum pressure be?

    No crank

I had car back in the 70's that had a clutch cable break on me while I was about 500 miles from home. I used a key ring to loop around the cable and back to the pedal. Cable adjustment was via an external snap ring on the cable housing. I was only 19 at the time. You know how it was back then...

So what did you do with your truck today?

SORRY FOR THE DUPLICATES!!! Yes, I'm an idiot. Just ask my ex-wife. Hell, for that matter ask my current wife. This is a bed that I made for my ambulance conversion. It's a 1989 F 350 7.3 IDI NA. Yes, I have foam pad for it. Yes, It was a pain in the ass. BUT, we sleep great on it and it gts out...
