Maby I missed it but what psi is your new radiator cap rated for? I believe anything over 9psi is too high for these engines. Do you have a coolant Pressure tester or access to one? since you have a known leak, I'd suggest over pressurizing the system a few pounds to recreate your leak...
Here's my go to . Ok, ok Just kidding. Sounds like you already know what you want. But why not use a turbo system that's already built for these engines?
Just my $.2 did you check to see if the harmonic balancer isn't slipping on the rubber dampener? I fought a timing issue on a gasser one time and it turned out to be the dampener spinning on it's self. It was fairly new too. Little over a year old. Marked it up with a paint pin and finally found...
If you're running green coolant you dont necessarily need to add the phosphorus die. Green coolant reflects pretty good with uv light and yellow glasses. Napa sells a basic leak detection kit for $18.00. This is a newer version of the one I used to use. Just take your time looking and don't rush...
I vegly remember performing this recall way back when I worked at the stealership. But if you get used parts for your masters cylinder be sure to keep an eye out for leaks at the pressure switch.
Here's a pic from the internet because I'm away from my truck, but you can see the two belts. Inside belt is for driving the alternator from the crankshaft and the outside belt is driving the vacuum pump from the alternator. Really only the inside belt drives the alternator. The outer belt is a...
I've got a 89 quad cab. Both flashers are on the fuse panel under the dash. I've been chasing electrical issues since I got the truck. Water leak at the drivers windshield. Corroded the bulkhead connector. Fixed that. Starting relay harnesses on the steering column got hot and melted...
I'm not real familiar with these engines. I thought that they were made by Perkins a division of Cat for Ford back in the 80's. I think 86 was the last year? Are you looking for a diagram/mechanical breakdown of the injection pump? In the video the pump looks like an older Bosch pump. Looks like...
Thanks for the reply guys! Laserjock I noticed in those test results, most people were referring to a constant higher fuel pressure. I was thinking more along the lines of a variable pressure that increases with boost. I noticed that Macrobb recorded fuel pressure at idle of 4psi and dropped at...
Selahadoor I'm about 4 hours away from you in washougal. I've recently acquired a timing pickup to work with my timing light. I'm not the most experienced, but it seemed to work on my truck. I work graveyard shift and am home during the day. I don't have a garage so it will be out in the...
Hello everyone. just had this rattling around in my head. I read about about an old McCulloch centrifugal supercharger installation and in it was a modification for the lift pump. They had put a hose port on the atmosphere orifice on the lift pump and routed it to the boost side of the...
If your having trouble with steering geometry or vibrations/shimmying. And have checked all steering components. Don't forget to look at the bolts that hold the double I-beam to the frame. You probably would have to have the suspension unloaded and have a friend help to shake or jounce the tire...
I'm running an eBay selector valve in my rig. it came with a new blade type connector. it was a direct fit for $68 plus tax and shipping. my old connector was broken. I just un-pinned the connector and installed the old pins into new connector. I tried to open the old selector and did get it...
Mexicanjoe did you check your new thermostat prior to installing it? it could have stuck open? I know it stinks hearing this after everything is back together, but you might want to boil you T-stat and watch it's operation with a thermometer.
I believe its for harmonics. to change the noise inside the cab. that junk is a result from a study panel. ford still puts similar wonky stuff on their trucks. the newer ones typically have a dumbbell looking thing on the exhaust. I can only imagine how much money is spent trying to "engineer" a...
Sounds like the shop goofed up on your breaks. If you don't find anything wrong right away. It could be your brake booster. Between the booster and the master cylinder there is a rod with a small adjustable end. If that end is adjusted slightly too far it will make the brakes drag when vacuum is...
At first glance my shower heads looked fine. I removed the sender and found the plastic screen was almost blocked by black goo. It wouldn't clear by back purging either. The tanks were clean. No accumulation anywhere else inside. I had a sunk float in one tank and bad level sender in the other...
Sounds like I'm a few days late, but T-Rex auto parts stocks fuel parts for our diesel trucks. Replacement tanks that are plastic and tank senders that are year specific. That's where I got my senders. Fit and function are great. The floats are plastic not soldered brass.
I had a similar problem. Though it was the neutral safety switch on the E4oD. Installed a new on due to the old connector being fuzzy green inside. Still a no crank condition. Did a wiggle test on the starter switch pigtail on top the steering column while holding the key in crank position...
Good point. I was thinking about the carrier side gear pin obstructing the view threw the axle tube. Could just pop open the diff cover and pull the pin. Probably not a bad idea to have a look inside anyway.
Glad your alright. Where you spinning the drive shaft or a tire? Remember if you turn the drive shaft you will be turning the carrier too. Which will turn both axles if they are unloaded. You could lock the driveline and spin one tire and see if the other spins backwards? I would suggest pulling...
at idle I had 22-1/2 ish vacuum. First pedal pump dropped to about 11. And after 5 pumps it pretty much had no assist. The needle went back to 9-10 inches of mercury while holding the pedal. I need new rear wheel cylinders but my brakes are good on the road. I put the gage on the accessory...
Ok more than likely its your booster. Do you have a vacuum gauge. If so you could tee into the booster and watch the vacuum while using the brakes. I'll have to tee into mine to give you a comparison. I'll try to get back to you today. I work nights so please be patient if I don't.
