What's your favorite method for degreasing an IDI?
I do like the cheap oven cleaner, it does take everything but metal off your engine/axle etc. Mixing diesel fuel and Tide won't take the paint off, but if you don't clean it off it will soften anything rubber. Product called sea-clean is diesel fuel and tide. Best used when warm, so I drive to self wash and put sea-clean in a Hudson sprayer. This one poses a challenge, a light unibody car built for a 400LB engine package with a 1400lb torque monster. I'd attempt to put a frame under it, 3x4 2/4 wall at a minimum, and possibly check with a drag racer who runs a similar torque range for due diligence. I have seen a Duramax twin...- hondo78

Height is always an issue in a garage, I have also spotted a modified bumper lift unit lift a 7.3 straight up, and rolled straight out the front. Great score on the engine, that is a deal.- hondo78

I also cut the core support, then unbolted the body mounts leaving the back two and jacked up the front of the body to gain an extra 5" of vertical clearance. I'd likely lift the body off 2' if I did another Turbo Diesel replacement, the dealership in my area does it this way for F350's and...- hondo78
