Limits of N/A connecting rods? Will turbo rods=rebalancing engine?

Thanks for the replies - I think all 7.3 IDIs were 21.5:1 comp - Cometic gaskets Thanks for the replies, It is my understanding that all 7.3 IDIs had the same compression (21.5:1) with the factory turbos getting a beefier (and heavier rotating mass) rod and 33mm wrist pin with a coated piston...

Limits of N/A connecting rods? Will turbo rods=rebalancing engine?

I am considering a major freshen up for my 93 NA 7.3. I would like to go the full route and add a 2nd hand used turbo on it (checking on fleabay). I know the compression is the same on factory motors (turbo and N/A), but wondered if the turbo rods were worth the upgrade (with pistons). I get the...

    glasspacks or straight?

The glasspack was ok around town but towing was loud It was cool for the first few weeks and it really woke up the motor, but towing an enclosed car trailer where the sound could resonate off the front of the trailer was too much. Dynomax hemi magnum is nice. I have a 3.5" system off a '96 PSD...

can you replace the fuel tank pickup fitting with piece of hose?

Like everyone else, my tanks are 19 gallons but if I get 10-12 gallons out of them it is a lot. My truck sits high in the back and when the front tank gets low (but with 6-7 gallons of diesel still in it), fuel sloshes away from the pickup during braking and it sucks air and dies. Easy fix =...

fuel system sucking air, only on front tank

leave the lines/hoses alone until you are sure that 90* fittings coming out of the sender/pickup unit aren't rusted through. Mine had a pinhole at the bend and was sucking air. cleaned all the rust and had it brazed - end of problem for $10.

    WD Hitch

A good WD unit is about $450 The sway control is optional IMO. I got my WD hitch from http://www.hitch-web.com a few years back. (free freight too) I called the # and got a salesman who actually knew what he was talking about. Get the heaviest hitch bars you can, mine are 1,400 lbs and cost $20...

    Electric Fans,...More Power...?

I think you are on to something here. I was always surprised/disappointed with how much power my truck loses when it gets hot (85*+). I tow primarily in the summer and thought the hot intake air was killing the power on my NA truck. I read that the 7.3 puts out 104 hp @ 2000 rpm (my cruising...

    22.5s on a dually-what width wheels??

thanks for the input from someone who actually has first hand experience. I have driven two F350 trucks with the big tires with both 22.5s and 24.5s. The 1996 had 255/70/22.5s and it drove nicely with 50/60 lbs of air in the tires, and handled better than I would have thought even with 140k...

    22.5s on a dually-what width wheels??

The salvage yard by me has gotten a buyout of 22.5 alcoa wheels. All are from 18 wheelers (kenworth/peterbilt) and all are 8.25" width for $150 each. Do the commercial 22.5 kits (southwest / chromewheel) use 7.5 or 8.25 wide wheels?? I am thinking of using a set of 255/70/22.5 tires on my 93...
