Losing coolant from what looks like behind the flywheel.

Reuse it. Guy at AutoZone is wrong. There are many vehicles that use them. Fortunately it isn't vehicle specific for that one. Look at the dorman stuff in AutoZone or google heater hose fitting or nipple. Pretty sure the heater hose is 5/8” which gives you the nipple size. The threads...

The box should have the instructions for those bolts. I stole this pic for you. See the notation on the top two bolts? See the other notation on the top and bottom two bolts.

    coolant filter

I have mine in line. However I also have a ranger or explorer heater bypass installed so coolant flows through my filter year round. If the heater ever stops blowing hot air I'll know the filter needs changing.

    Pulling a C6 transmission

Like gman said they sell cans for flushing AC components that have a hose and nozzle. They also sell a gun and bulk solvent to do the same thing. Word of warning. Don't have your face near the exit end when you pull the trigger.

Dead e4od. What to look for first?

First thing to look for? A zf-5. I'll show myself out. Pretty sure you need a diesel transmission from a 4wd or a 2wd with the emergency brake on the back of the transmission.

    Alcoa nuts

They have an interference thread. Once you get half a turn on them, you're using a wrench or power tool to put them on the rest of the way.

    Alcoa nuts

If those are the Ford interference fit nuts, I would trash them and put some regular nuts on there.

7.3 idi compression test numbers and discussion

That hole. Genius. I assume the setup is with the oil dipstick hole plugged and the cap on. Any idea what rpms it's tested at?

7.3 idi compression test numbers and discussion

@hacked89 is the rotunda tool a manometer? I'd be interested in the proper setup and usage instructions if anyone has them. Before springing for a rebuild, I would pull the valve covers and inspect them for soot. I'd also crank the engine over with them off and compare the movement of the...

7.3 IDI injection pump removal and compression testing after the fact.

If you don't release the pressure in the gauge before you remove it from the glow plug adapter, you'll blow out the o-ring on the end of the hose. That's the only other gotcha I can think of.

7.3 IDI injection pump removal and compression testing after the fact.

Install the pump. Tighten the nuts and bolts. Don't connect the wire to the pump. No diesel is going to spray anywhere. I would always disconnect the wire when testing. A diesel is going to fire and your going to be buying a new gauge if you don't.

That ^^^^^ is classic diesel design. I'd contact "Wes" at classic diesel design to see if he can help.

Losing coolant from what looks like behind the flywheel.

Jamb a thin piece of wood between the belt and the pulley groove.

    1987 6.9idi won't start

Are you getting any smoke out of the exhaust? Disabling the glow plugs and letting the intake sniff a rag dampened with gas should get it to fire. Cranking the piss out of it will get it to fire too in reasonable weather. But it's really hard on the starter.

    7.3 ATS '91 Engine: what's it worth?

If the drivers valve cover and hold down hardware us available, I'd be interested. Let me know what you want, shipped to 95842

Losing coolant from what looks like behind the flywheel.

Leave the belts on and tensioned until you get the fan loose. A hammer on the wrench worked for me.

Losing coolant from what looks like behind the flywheel.

The seal in the water pump is above the weep hole. When the seal goes bad, that is where it will leak. Water pump replacement is called for when they happens. But, clean it well and look carefully to make sure that's where it's leaking

Losing coolant from what looks like behind the flywheel.

That's not the flywheel. That top pair of pulleys is the water pump. It should have a weep hole on the bottom

So what did you do with your truck today?

It's grounded through the screw that bolts it to the roof. That was where mine was having problems.

I never knew the 6.9 and 7.3 had different plunger diameters. It's cool to see how far you are pushing this simple design.
