Sounds like I can tow about 3,000 lbs, about the weight of jwalterus's Ranger pickup.
Looks like this might work out. Thanks for all the info.
I'd like to travel travel through the Rockies. I was thinking of camping in the van and going off-road with a little 4 wheel drive pickup or something similar.
I want to tow a small pickup truck with my 1989 E350 van without using a trailer or trailer brakes. Just tow bar or tow dolly.
What is the maximum amount of weight I can tow in this situation?
The 89 is starting good now, but there might be some other rubber hoses or o-rings that need to be changed. When I part out the 86, I will find probably find out complete information. I have a factory manual from ebay. I should probably look in that too.
I had to crack an injector line to get my 1989 E350 van to start after it sat overnight. I then found a big leak in the rubber return line hose near the transmission bell housing, so I replaced the hose. I am wondering if there are any other rubber return line hoses that might need to be...
What's the best way to remove the engine out of the van?
Where is the best place to hook the chains for the hoist?
I was thinking of removing the hood and front grill and coming out the front of the vehicle with the engine.
Sounds interesting. Is this to keep the inside of the engine dry so it won't rust? Does everything need to be airtight for the silica to work? How often does the silica need to be changed?
I had no idea the TC needs to stay with the trans when separating the trans from the engine. I'll be careful with the nuts holding the TC to the flywheel. I'll probably use penetrating oil to help soften up any rust on the threads.
Do the threads have blue loctite on them?
I plan to pull the transmission first. It seems you are indicating to unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel first, then pull the transmission while keeping the torque converter engaged with the transmission. Is this correct? If so, then there must be a dust cover on the underside of the...
This is some excellent info.
I plan to separate the transmission from the engine, and I am wondering if I will lose the transmission fluid in the process.
Seems the torque converter will stay with the engine when the transmission is separated and fluid will leak out.
Any way to...
Would assembly grease be better than bearing grease?
What does it mean to not have the valve train installed? The rocker arms and shafts are removed from the heads so that the valve springs are not compressed?
Why would the lifters have to be replaced?
I was thinking about parting out my 1986 E350. It has the 6.9idi and C6 transmission. The engine and transmission are in good condition now, but I have heard they (engine anyway) can be damaged from non-use for many years.
I was wondering if the engine and transmission would be useable in...
