How did you hone out your pump with out flaring out the edges with the engine hone? I have 2 - 7 in hone, but the hone blocks are long enough to where the are hard to keep flat in the bore. Thanks
:thanks:
Just found some literature. Its very general, not specifying any make or model, but it is speaking of bushings in automatic transmissions.
It states that: "If you want to measure bushing clearance to, use the rule of thumb that anything over 0.006 in. is excessive."
According to that I have...
My issue with the whole process was if the bushing O.D. is 2.109" and then the recommended bore size for and overzized is 2.123 - 2.125", that makes the bore 0.014 - 0.016" to large for the bushing. I think I have an "OE" sized bushing and still have plenty of room to play with on the bushing...
I just installed the bushing. I found that I have about .008" hub to bushing clearance. I can not find a spec anywhere for hub to bushing clearance but I am assuming that is acceptable. When staking the bushing I caused a crack in the bronze around the area that was staked. It looks superficial...
If you don't drive it every day I would get snow tires and run them through out the year. My ranger has studless snow tires on it, handles fine during the non winter months.
I'll re-measure everything tomorrow to double check. On second thought, one would think that a bit of interference fit would be desired for a bushing maybe?
I have a new bushing which has an O.D. of 2.109" and the bushing bore is also 2.109". To snug of a fit I think. I have read on other forums that the bore should be machined/ honed out to 2.123 - 2.125". This would make the bore larger than the bushing O.D. which sounds like a recipe for another...
Hey everyone, its been about a year since I've even looked at the truck. Things got moved around and misplaced. I am curious to see if the engine will fire again. I am currently charging the batteries. I have no idea where i put the glow plugs and don't want to go out and buy another new pair...
I believe you were trying to show me a pic? Its not showing up.
The last time someone messed with the trans was about a decade ago. Ill have to dig to find out who did the work.
I made a video of the carnage as well, It doesnt show you much more than what the pics do. I should have made the vid after I pulled the bellhousing chunk off and the flexplate. I literally discovered the first clue that the flexplate was broken while making the vid.

Thanks for the info!
Is this the spacer? http://s12.postimg.org/3tpdqksnt/20140424_165442.jpg
or is this what you are talking about? http://s12.postimg.org/lih4i74ex/20140424_165450.jpg
I have a cast iron flywheel to replace the broken one. I also have a good core/case to use. I hope...
I think the pictures speak for themselves. The case and the flex plate are destroyed.
The pump shaft is worn, and I think the torque converter is trashed.
I noticed a crack in the case that looked like it may be from a casting defect. It has me wondering.
The trans mount didn't appear to...
Just pulled the trans today! I haven't had a lot of spare time over the last few months, school, work, and family events slowed the truck project down. I took a lot of pics of the carnage for you guys.
Yes, I'm still trying to find out if the trans has had a full rebuild. God knows when the fluid was changed last. Im wondering if that fuz is just accumulation from the last decade of use. The filings are so fine its pretty much a sludge. No big flakes.
Glad my wet plugs aren't a big deal...
I had some time to go work on the truck today. I dropped the pan to drain the fluid, the fluid was dark and had some sparkle to it. The magnet was really fuzzy.
I pulled the glowplugs and some were wet. What could that be? They were only half wet, towards the top? Could this just be fuel?
I...
