I had no trouble with that spring. I borrowed a special tool from a local friend/source, and it was easy. I took and have pictures of both sides, a requirement when I'm working. I do want to get things back together looking about the same as prior to my molestation.

You know the drill, Gary. One side at a time, the other side as reference, and lots of pictures.

Pictures are your friend.... It proves everything. My materials wont be here till the 15th. Even that is suspect. So my plan is to get moving on this when parts arrive... Brakes have been grabbing very badly causing rear lockups. Then because of the RABS valve the brakes release and you continue rolling forwards. It is not fun trying to stop...I am the ONLY person that drives my rig too.

Definately leave one side alone so you have something to look at. Or use the cell phone and take plenty of pics.

That's good advice.....
Except you know if it's the first time he's ever done drums he's gonna pull the drum and it'll go "SPROING!!!!" and the hardware will be everywhere..... LOL

That is called learning. If you are older, like I am, you have done this. Get a manual that has pics, so you can get it back together! It is not the end of the world.

I have done many brake shoe jobs and always leave one side as found for referances. I guess one could still wonder if they were put together correctly by the last person in there but no worries. Got home yesterday to find the drums on my porch. In our city right now we are learning of creeps following fed ex and ups. they then take what was delivered. This time last year I saw a ups driver on a bike with one of those wagons children usually are seen being taken for rides by parents. Uniform well marks as was the wagon..... Will take pics of it this year... Just in case...

Did half the job today is an hour 15 minutes. Really impressed with the special tools for the springs. They make an impossible job simple. New drums came in on Saturday but I got home near midnight from daughters. then Monday wifey told me the shoes came in.. And I was at work... Go figure...So today was an attempt at doing both sides.. Nope..Just ran out of I don't care type attitude.

WEll yesterday I replaced the drivers side brakes and drum in about 1 hour 15 minutes... Not so today. The passenger side peckerwood took me for a ride on no return trip to hell.... I had to remove the parking brake lever from the backing plate to get the rear shoe in place. Just could not get the spring tool under ot behind it. then installed the lower spring backwards after much work trying to make it fit. Figured it out when I tried to install the auto adjuster on the wheel... Wont fit. So got that done but..Seems the adjuster arm is not resting correctly on the adjuster wheel.. Just going to drive it and see what happens..
Now I'm hearing the power steering pump howling. checked fluid level and its up to the top. Going to see if I can locate some pump special lube to see if I can get a few more miles from it. My Nappa has the pump with the 2 return line nipples so its not a special order. I think they wanted 45 or 50 bucks for it with the resivour...

How did it do, Gary? Did you get it back together to your satisfaction?

You've hit on the exact reason I take pictures as I'm working. I'll post up two witch I think show what you're doing. These are the passanger side of my '92 CCLB Dually.

I have faith in you. I'm sure you'll win this battle.

Yes... Ken that is the tight area I just could not make work like the drivers side did. If you did not know that parking brake arm is held in place by the bolt and that back side nut hidden deep in the backing plate is I think 11 mm. Might be 3/8. Funny how I just did the work and can't remember the size...
