Easy Fuel Additive system
This isn't want you asked for, but the way I dose my 86 250 and 2005 Jetta... I pick up those 2 ounce bottles (brown for winter, white for summer). I buy a big jug of additive, then use a small funnel to fill up the bottles. I keep a few in each vehicle so that I can easily tip the small bottle...- 6T9burner

86 IDI w/ C6 - Trans Dipstick w/ Tube help... please...
The company is giving me a hard time, so I need to look at other options. I found two dipstick/tube combos, both with locking dipsticks. However, the are for C6 trans with small blocks and big blocks. The one of the left is big block, the one on the right is small block.- 6T9burner

So I figured out that the mounting tab is welded on the wrong side... which is why the mounting made no sense to me. I called the company to get a replacement... but holidays and all. I am still trying to find a dipstick for it.- 6T9burner

The turbo and associated parts came off a 7.3 auto. The turbo isn't the problem, the dipstick tube is. I have a flexible one, that that is a POS. Glow plug too close to turbo?
I'm using the harness and did the same thing. It is just a hair too short! Once you pop the outer housing off, it fits right as rain. Also, the wire will not melt being that close to the turbo. If you are a little worried, a bit of insulation will do the trick as others have stated.- 6T9burner

GP wiring harness
For what it's worth... I would. I did this upgrade a year ago or so. Best thing I could have done. I also have a bypass in case the controller dies so I can direct inject so to speak.- 6T9burner

Looking into getting Volkswagen Touareg TDI
I personally don't care much about the smog scandal. *shrug* I have driven Touaregs, but never owned one. I love'em. adding gauges.....
I wanted to make a suggestion first... I have seen a lot of people piggy back the electronic portion of their gauges using vampire taps, fuse risers and other not-so-great methods. I recommend setting up your gauges off of a second fuse block, so that if you have issues with the electronics, you...- 6T9burner

ZF-S5-42 Germany or USA build preference
Although anecdotal, I have always heard that Germany is the place to get transmissions, the quality is almost always substantially better. As to the ZF5 specifically, I could not say. Bushing replacement difficulty?
I did it... and I'm an idiot. Personally, having just gone through that mess a few months ago, if you are going to go through the trouble of taking things apart to replace those bushings, I would recommend redoing the front end while you are at it. I spent about 800 or so for all the Moog...- 6T9burner

Converting to Electronic glow plug control
@david85 I just did the upgrade in my 86. If you can give me a day or two, I can add a video to youtube describing exactly what I did, pointing everything out. There are a few parts that are tricky little *******, as far as wiring.- 6T9burner
