Russ,

Serious question... do you think a 300 hp IDI can be long term reliable??

Oh, and don't shake it more than twice. :)

I was thinking about it on the way home, I'm sure everyone else but me's thought about it 100x over already, yes I'm slow. LOL

That 300rwhp he'll surely be at (man I hope!) outta totally put him at the same power levels my dads 2011 Megacab is at. Dad pulls a monstrosity of a 5ver all over the country, that grosses 15k easy, and is 42' long and 12' tall. He is not wanting for power at all. IIRC the 2011 6.7 Cummins are something like 350BHP and 800ft lbs. Dads power is all useable (no EGT issues, no smoke, etc.) If Justin's rig can do 75% of that and be stone cold reliable I'd personally consider his build a major win. As I remember it, his original objective was to build something that rocked it when pulling his Truggy around, and see where he could take the IDI platform. Seems like if he can get her reliable he's "won." It seems as though Justin was out to prove something to everyone and I'd say if the reliability piece works out he's done it. I read he's already talking about more fuel via a bigger IP. Power to him for wanting more. He's younger and a bigger risk taker than I now days, cuz man if it was my rig I'd leave well enough alone!

If you take a 25% loss through the powertrain your talking 262rwhp on the Cummins and 600rwtq.

Exactly. They ought to compare well. The question is if Justin can make his useable power pulling a trailer. There are plenty of dyno queens out there that are useless pulling a big load due to egt issues and turbos mismatched for hauling. My Cummins was a prime example of that until it got it's second turbo mated to it.

Justin travels quite often. I don't think he is building this to just spin the rollers.;Really I just wish he was more friendly behind the keyboard.LOL He seemed to be more up front and open with his build from what I saw bleed over from PSN. Seemed like he wanted to keep key parts of his build up in the air and change his story around last time he was here.:dunno Hopefully he'll come to appreciate how we roll here and come around eventually. Justin has my best wishes any way the you cut it, I'm not really one for drama so I try to skip that part.;p

If his fueul and turbo maintain I am guessing 300 easy or close to it. It really gets it on.

Now I want to play with mine.;Sweet NOT LIKE THAT:eek:

LMAO!!! That made me. Lol. But anyway, I still think that 300 is a low ball. I think its closer to 350 but who know til he gets it on the dyno. Man I can't wait!!!

If stays cool and lubed, I think it will require more oil pressure tho.

YUP It takes some work to get the spring out but it can be done. I think .060 will get about 10 more psi.

Why more oil pressure? We've always been taught that yeah we have low oil pressure at hot idle but it doesn't matter because it is a high volume low pressure system and it moves a ton of oil. That having been said, I don't know about anyone else but warmed up going down the road I have 50-60psi going down the road and I have 224,000 miles on this engine. When it's making big power, it has a ton of oil pressure. I guess the PSD has more oil pressure but does that have something to do with the HEUI injection system than that it needs that much pressure to keep it cool. What does a 6bt or a DT360 or Cat 3208 run at with respect to oil pressure.

The DPS Turbo Cal pump defuels @ 3800. Ive only taken mine once up that high but I know she was still getting fuel above 3200. Below quote taken from the DPS website

Turbo Calibration - As the name implies, only good if the engine has either a factory or aftermarket turbocharger. We readjust the fueling and timing curve to take full advantage of a turbo, and normally raise the governed RPM to 3800. The max fuel delivery capability of the pump is also raised. Although we can do a turn-up on any rotary pump, the ideal pump to use is a "XX31" model, found in the '93 - '94.5 idi. We can bring an "XX29" pump up to the same fuel delivery, but the price will go up due to the extra machining involved. Maximum gains are seen when a matched set of injectors are used.

What Ken says and what he actually does has been different several times in the past. I'm not trying to throw him under the bus, but my DPS turbo calibration IP was a 3200 pump. Dyno sheets in the sticky at the top of the IDI page.
