Finally decided to sign up, been reading this Forum for quite a while,
and finally decided to sign up.
Been a Diesel owner since 10/81 when I bought a new 82 Datsun KC
Diesel PU with a 5-spd. Still have the truck after all these years, but
now sits in the shop since we lost #2 cyl back in 7/14 with 480K miles.
Was coming down through Oregon from Portland to Santa Cruz when it
starting to puff out blue smoke. Still ran good, but cracking fuel lines and
swapping a used injector, #2 is dead.
Around April 97 bought my first Mercedes 300D Turbo Diesel, (still have it)
and 6 others followed me home over the years, along with a shop full of
PNP parts. My baby in our 80 240D 4 spd manual with 380K miles. Runs
like a sewing machine.
Then July 2014 bought the 86 F-250 6.9 4-spd 3:55 Diff. two tone Rust
and primer for $1800 in Sacramento, Ca. Didn`t know if it would make it
back to Santa Cruz (153 miles) Then the new learning curve on these IHC
Diesels. OH Yeah, she had 192K miles.
We just needed a 3/4 ton, 4-spd Diesel, 2WD, PU some kid hadn`t screwed
with with jacking it up big tires etc....
Dang thing wondered all over the road, put her in a shop. Both Rotors worn
past spect, replaced them, Pads, Wheel Bearings, set alignment, and replaced
4 dry rotted tires. Guy was right in his CL listing, good tread on tires.......
We made 22 trips hauling all our treasure from Ca. to Nv. over the Sierra
Nevada mountains. From sea level to over 7500 ft climbing over Echo Summit
on hwy 50. Then down towards Lake Tahoe., Over hwy 89 to over 8K ft.
Amazing how this old NA Diesel pulled the hills, slow but got us there.
Almost seemed like each trip something blew, leaked or almost broke. But she
always got us there.
She just rolled 307K today. Used a qt of oil around every 6 -700 miles.
And I think there is something wrong with her....no Blow By when I remove the
Oil fill Cap....HMMMM....
And no leaks, we fixed all of those....
By the looks of the Injectors and Pump, think they are the originals , and
they are still working.
I do have a new Pump and Injectors from R&D IDI Performance I bought 3yrs
or so ago. Saving them for a rainny day...oh wait...it doesn`t rain here in the
Desert...
That`s my story...but wait...there`s more, but for another time.
