in light of thanksgiving travels, and with my SD with a repaired rear diff,
i dont want to trust my work with 4 kids, 2 dogs, and the woman.
so i decided to do some work on my 98 E350 for the long haul.

i havnt driven her more than a couple of hours since i got her.
shes got a nasty squeal in the front of the engine which i suspect is the water pump.

so i get to find out how hard a water pump is on a van for the first time.
gonna replace hoses t-stat and serp belt while im there.

a fresh oil change, and i should be golden!

anyone have any tips?

actually, this has been easier than my 01F250!
besides the fact, i finally learned where the 2nd battery was, and boy, its a stupid location!
behind the driverseat, underneath, outboard of the frame.
the only way to disconnect it is to remove the whole battery box!
left batteries hooked up.

dont need to stand on anything to do the job either!
an hour to remove intake box, rad, shroud, and coolant.
letting PB blaster do its magic on the damn clutch fan.

she should be done by 1, then i can work on my IDI;Sweet

so, i went to replace both idler pulleys, and tensioner

it seems as if they re-designed the serp system and the stock idler pulleys and the tensioner are no longer available.
they gave me a SD tensioner & ribbed idler pulley they claim is the update.

so i bolted it up, and the belt goes on just fine, minus 1 hiccup.
the belt now hits the aluminum casting on the passenger side where the ribbed idler pulley used to mount to.

they are trying to find the correct items for my rig,

but half of me wants to cut that bracket off...
