Transmission bench rebuild kit is it decent? E4od rebuild

The biggest risk of the OEM torque converter is the blades coming apart and exploding internally. The more common risk is the clutch piston cracking and giving a lockup shudder condition. When I had my 3 clutch billet converter rebuilt, I asked them to send me photos of the as found internals...

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

There is a main engine harness connector at the inner fender on the passenger side of the engine bay. These connectors are not sealed, and prone to corrosion after so many decades. I ended up bypassing mine. A dead giveaway is to clean off the connector and look for signs of melting on the...

    7.3 heads on a 6.9?

Nothing. I eventually bought melling rocker arms to upgrade to the later style.

ATS 093 leaky slip joint repair

Alright, mild steel is around $100/set. Again, plus taxes and shipping.

ATS 093 leaky slip joint repair

Alright, I got ahold of the machine shop. Looks like they can get the price down to 130-140 per set in 304 alloy (taxes, fees and shipping would be extra). This assumes a volume order of 10 sets. Still going to ask if mild steel is an option.

    3G alternator upgrade

Good catch. I didn't realize that until now. But it looks like the 2-hole alternators can be had for a decent price if this 4-hole proves too small.

    3G alternator upgrade

More reliable and higher amp output, especially at idle.

So what did you do with your truck today?

This was actually last weekend but I took a three day trip to the northern region of Vancouver island. The first night coincidentally happened to be during a massive aurora show. It’s not quite this vivid to the naked eye but still impressive.

    Injection pump time

It was a long time ago, but I seem to remember something about the fueling curve of the upgraded pump didn’t allow for the normal redline at the time. Something about the nature of the pump trying to dump too much fuel in the lower rpm range without enough at max…Things may have improved since...

    Injection pump time

My only complaint about the moose pump was the 3000rpm limit. I’m not sure if that’s still the case for any of the options for the upgraded pumps.

    3G alternator upgrade

I don’t even remember when I acquired this, but apparently I had a complete kit ready to go to upgrade the alternator to a 3G. Even had the wiring harness with fusible links still in it. Took about three hours because the pulley I have is apparently loose. I eventually found some shim stock to...

    Injection pump time

It’s been over 10 years since I installed a moose pump and I’m thinking it might be time to replace or rebuild it. The truck still starts and runs well but the mpgs are quite poor lately. Already have a recent set of injectiors from Russ. The only hard clue I have of a tired IP is a slight...

"Tank" my 91 Crew Cab Dually

Whatever it is, i think it’s metric. All the body bolts are metric, so it would make sense to have the frame metric. The wheel pattern and lugs are still imperial, but even the shackle bolts are metric. If I were to hazard a guess, I would say m16x2 but don’t quote me on that.

ATS 093 leaky slip joint repair

In reality, the outside of the female coupling doesn’t even have to be machined. It’s the ID that’s critical. That could be one place to shave some cost.

ATS 093 leaky slip joint repair

No I do not, but since most of the I members here are in the states, it makes sense to make them down there. Although having said that, I doubt a small order like this will attract too much excitement from most shops. My plan is to quote ten sets locally to get an idea for cost.

ATS 093 leaky slip joint repair

One more thing. The machinist told me at the time that the ideal interference was about 0.001”. I originally asked for 0.003” but I’m glad he suggested less.

ATS 093 leaky slip joint repair

Alright folks, here’s the CAD drawings for the slip coupling repair that I designed. This is offered free for anyone to use however they wish. Make them for yourself or make them to sell. Up to you. The only dimensional change I recommend is to increase the OD of the female part. At only 1/8”...

ATS 093 leaky slip joint repair

Well, it's been 1.5 years since this repair and it still seems to be holding up. I just got another note from someone interested in getting a set of rings machined. So real question here: How many of you are interested? My one-off cost for the parts was about $300CAD but it could probably come...

    1994 idit dana 61

I think 3.33 gears might still be available for the 10.25" rear axle (aftermarket stopped making 3.08s years ago). Although to be honest, there isn't too much difference between 3.08 to 3.55 gears once you settle into cruise. If you ever want 4wd, 3.55 is as tall as you can go, unless you swap...

    Cup holders

It’s also a welcome distraction from the times we live in. I’m seriously considering those inserts that were shown earlier in the thread, though. The molded cup holders on the 80s era center console never seem to hold anything properly.

    Cup holders

My mid 80s E24 didn’t even have cup holders. Instead, you had a cooler between the rear seats with a molded liner to secure 3 cans of beverage while you were putting the car through its paces. Germans took motor vehicle safety very seriously, even back then so they didn’t want to condone driving...

    Self regulating glow plugs

I’ve been running the autolite 1115s as well for a couple years with no issues. I bench tested each of them for one minute before installing. 10 seconds is enough to get just as hot as the Beru plugs would. Like others, I got tired of the premature failures I was seeing with the OEM plugs. I...

    e locker 10.25

Nice job! As I mentioned on the other thread, the factory bulkhead connector is probably not worth the trouble. Using a heat shrink on the wires before coming through the cable gland is also a very good idea, since the gland can’t properly seal against multiple wires. Some folks are aware of...
