Hot hot should my e4od run?

That reminds me, I still have a few wires to hook up on that shift controller, including the OFF light and the OD control switch. The new controller is pretty aggressive about locking the TC. That's good, this time of year.

Hot hot should my e4od run?

At least half the year I'll be more concerned with getting it warm than cooling it. I think I'll want that loop through the radiator when it's -40. It's an older transmission, no signs of damage, but the OFF light would flash intermittently, and then it would shift very hard. I figured the new...

    Different Oil Filter (read)

I have several years worth of oil and the shorter psd filters. I'm keeping the filters in a very dry, heated space.

A grinder? It's 1/2 inch fatter and 4 inches longer, what has to be ground away?

Looks like the Donaldson P550371 is the powersmoke version. Check fleabay, there's at least one OK looking deal there for those.

Hot hot should my e4od run?

I'm not sure yet what's plumbed in there. I'll need to put it back in the shop and trace those lines. After I posted this, I found several threads with folks talking about running 100F above ambient. 155F is right in that ballpark. I don't think it has a bypass - that's going to be a pipe...

Hot hot should my e4od run?

I took my ambulance for a test drive with the new US Shift controller. I drove a few miles on flat ground, ambient temp around 50F, running empty so vehicle weight probably around 11,000 pounds, cruising about 50mph. The controller told me the torque converter was locked up must of the time I...

So what did you do with your truck today?

What's your goal? If you aim to make smoke, more fuel for sure. If you want cool EGTs instead of cool smoke, no more fuel.

No idea. I've been sticking to the Wix or NAPA gold filters.

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

By the way, I got lucky on fleabay a while back and got a decent quality hydraulic crimper set used, with all the dies. I had been using a little hammer crimper that required laying the cable on the floor and pounding away with a hand sledge. This was the first time I've used the hydraulic one...

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

I have some wire in stock I'm planning on using to make up new cables for the red truck. If I ever get that finished I'll be able to give the brown truck a rest. Someday. The cables from engine block to battery- and between battery+ are 2/0, the cable from passenger side battery+ to starter is...

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

Those cables I thought were good weren't so good. I cut into the wire leading from the battery+ to the starter relay, and it was pretty cruddy. This may not have been the problem, but it was fixin' to be a problem. So I redid the cable ends, and replaced the piddly wire from battery to starter...

Are you going back tomorrow for the rest of the Superduty?

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

My EVTM for the '89s arrived in the mail yesterday. I'm planning to look for the source of power in that, then try to find it on the truck. Odds are good something is corroded in there.

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

That engine harness connector melted down before I ever bought the truck, and was already replaced with wads of butt splices when I got it. I replaced the butt splices with a couple of connectors while I had it out for the head gasket. I have the glow plug wires separated out in their own...

Changing a head gasket in the brown truck.

I'll turn this into the central thread for this truck. Here's the thread on the mysterious dead truck issue. https://www.oilburners.net/threads/my-89-is-dead-whats-happened.93385/

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

The stupid truck started working as mysteriously as it stopped. I went out yesterday to check voltage at Fuse 18 with the key on - I had found no voltage with the key off, of course. I turned the key, and the dash lit up, the fan came on, and then I started the engine. The only things I did...

    Arctic Ambulance

I took the ambulance out for a test drive yesterday, and I like the way it shifts. It's firm but not crazy. On flat ground it feels OK, locks up pretty early and stays locked pretty well. I drove a couple of miles on flat ground, saw the trans temp reach 150F, so it was just getting warmed up...

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

The Motorcraft ignition switch is $70 for the '89, would be $20 for the '94 ambulance. Oh, well.

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

Fuse 18 is good. No power to it when I turn the key. I can jump across the starter solenoid on the fender, and the engine turns over.

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

This truck has several heavygauge cables running from engine to frame, not standard. I should check those.

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

Yep, 13+ volts at the starter solenoid, and also at the hot side of the glow plug relay.

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

Ah, good thought, I hadn't checked there, Nero. This morning I took a pair of pliers to that rod. It does NOT move independently of the key, I cannot push it farther than the key does, and the key does not feel floppy or lose. I'll check for volts at the starter solenoid, and if none, I'll get...

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

When I turn the key, nothing happens. It's as if I hadn't turned the key at all. I think that rules out neutral safety switch and starter solenoid. I'll double check the cables, but I repaired them when I put the engine back in, should still be good a few months later.
